2010-03-26 Fri - Critical Mass - The rolling LFGSS birthday party

It's been suggested that this year, on the anniversary of the forum's creation (or near enough) we would simply join critical mass and turn it into a mahoosive critical mass, by simply having a rolling party.

All you need to know is the time and the place:
Time: Meet from 6pm
Place: On the South Bank, under Waterloo Bridge, the stone circle 50m to the East of the BFI.

Bring whatever food and drink you might need, sound you might want, bikes you want to ride... and we'll just make CM a rolling birthday party.

The point is just to make this the biggest CM London has seen, and to have a real blast doing so, and sharing a load of memories from the last 3 years of the forum. Forum t-shirts are not obligatory, but would certainly be a laugh (I'm thinking of Tynan's designs in particular here).

Oh... and lists! Who's in?

[update 1]Post ride drinks will be at the ever affordable Dover Castle, which is on a private mews and therefore has no traffic so 100 bikes will be safe: The Dover Castle, 43 Weymouth Mews, London W1G 7EH [/update 1]

[update 2]Right, this is going to be a cool ride but...

The "but" is that three cyclists have died in lorry related incidents since the CM invasion and party was announced and that means that various other cycling groups who attend CM really would like to visit the sites of those incidents to pay tribute and to highlight the issue.

I've spoken to a couple of people about the LFGSS party and actually the line everyone has been saying is that CM isn't owned or led by anyone, and it will be interesting to see both the mix of those partying their arse off and those joining to pay tribute.

The consensus of those few I've spoken to seems to be: Let the mass visit the sites of the fallen, but let's keep the mood that of a vibrant party/festival on wheels.

So on Friday do come down with the intent to party hard, but don't fight about the route and let it go where it goes (the sites of the three that fell).

Whenever you get tired and want to turn aside, head for the Dover Castle just North of Oxford Circus (posted earlier) and that will be the post-CM drinking hole.

Have fun, enjoy it, it is still a party on wheels... the lorry issue is just one we should really be supporting and highlighting so let the route be guided by that.

By what accounts I've heard, this week's CM is going to be absolutely huge, and the weather might just make it even larger too.
[/update 2]

SJS have the majority of the LFGSS shirts, the only two that they do not have are the Pukes on Cock (because it understandably would not reflect them well) and the Pengi shirt (because of the cease and desist issued by Penguin UK due to the alleged similarity of our shirt to the Penguin logo).

Those shirts (well, the former definitely, the latter allegedly) are available direct from myself... they're at home in the shed :)

The shed is on the 19th floor where we live. It's only the 20th if you include the mezzanine. It's the 21st if you include the ground floor and the mezzanine.

No BBQ... it would take out the oblig' satellite dish that all social housing is required to have. The balcony is too small you see.

Just to make sure people understand, this is the March Critical Mass... last Friday of the month.

The point is: We turn up, add to the numbers, and just party. It's a forum raid on a real world event at which we're most welcome (by all except for those who have to police it I suspect).

So it's just us, in large numbers... partying as we roll... and making even the regular CM'ers wonder what's suddenly happened.

Don't worry, it'll be more like an LFGSS party on wheels tacked onto mass.

I'm sure we can find a way to distinguish ourselves appropriately ;)
