Indeed, it scared the shit out of me when I thought of how often I have locked my bike up top-tube to top-tube, on a busy street, at night, assuming it would be safe.

Feel bad posting this here as not to a level of having a whole bike nicked, but some fuckker just stole my Raceblade mudguards when I left my bike for an hour behind green park! Of course for the last couple of years I have almost always tried to get a lock through them, but didnt bother this morning....fark.

Hi,

My Shwinn Slicker was stolen on Friday night in East London. Was locked in bike hut outside our house. Navy Blue, brown drop handle bars. So gutted.

Know its a long shot, but if anyone sees it around happy to reward the finder.

Thanks Guys,

Not sure if scam or stolen bike. Highly suspicious regardless.

I wonder if they ever have visited that place. Doubt it. Great account. I remember having my (admittedly not that expensive) Raleigh mtb nicked when i was still a teenaged cyclist. I was so angry and upset, knowing full well that i would never see my bike again.
Someone tried to nick another of my bikes more recently from outside my house. The place i lived then had a little bike rack in the garden. Some crim drove up to the house and made more noise than a skeleton wanking in a biscuit tin as he tried in vain to get through two d-locks.
That bike survived and still bears the scars on the top tube. Wish i had got out of the house in time to catch him, my housemate scared him off.

It seems that I'll be getting the Metropolitan Police press releases on bike theft from now on:

Harry Garratty, 26 years (07/11/1986) of Raymouth Road, SE16 was sentenced at Camberwell Magistrates Court on Friday 1 February after pleading guilty to two counts of theft of a pedal cycle.

On 31 January officers from Southwark Safer Transport Team, part of the Transport for London funded Safer Transport Command, were carrying out a covert bicycle operation in London Bridge as part of Project Cycle Ops - a partnership initiative to tackle cycle theft in the Capital.

Officers witnessed Garratty approach a locked bicycle in Duke Street Hill, which he then attempted to ride off on after cutting the lock.

He was detained and arrested by officers who discovered he was on court bail in connection with another theft of pedal cycle offence on 18 October 2012 at Canada Water Library SE16.

He was charged with theft of a pedal cycle and appeared at Camberwell Magistrates Court on 1 February, where he pleaded guilty to the London Bridge offence as well as the offence in Canada Water.

He was jailed for a total of 12 weeks and given an ASBO, which bans him from entering the London Bridge area for 18 months

Superintendent Stuart Trayler, Safer Transport Command, said: "Project Cycle Ops is using a range of tactics to successfully tackle cycle theft in the capital as this result demonstrates.

"Cycle theft is a crime that can have a considerable impact on victims. The MPS, its policing partners, and Transport for London will continue to target those involved and arrest them wherever possible."

We encourage cyclists to Follow the Three R's:

Record - Keep a record for yourself of the frame number, make and any other marks that can identify your bike if it is stolen. The Cycle Taskforce run a number of bike marking events, details can be found at http://content.met.police.uk/Article...1400005859885/
1400005859885

Register - There are a number of websites where cyclists can register the details of their bikes and any distinguishing features/ frame numbers etc. The MPS have recently selected BikeRegister as the preferred cycle online registration service - www.bikeregister.com.

Report - If your bike is stolen then please make sure that you report it to the police and provide as many details as you can, such as frame number, make, distinguishable marks. Bike theft is a significantly under-reported crime. Reporting the theft will enable us to check databases
and contact the owner once the bike is recovered.

Garmin-Sharp bikes stolen before Tour of Mediterranean’s Mont Faron stage

Team set to withdraw from race

The Garmin-Sharp team is facing a likely withdrawal from the Tour of the Mediterranean today following the shock realisation that sixteen race bikes were stolen overnight from the team hotel in Aix en Provence.

Mechanics discovered this morning that the team truck containing the bicycles had been broken open and the majority of its contents removed.

Team soigneur Matt Rabin made the news public, stating on Twitter that ‘unscrupulous local scallywags’ had stolen all the bikes, despite precautions taken.

“The car was parked up against the back of the truck as is standard, but they moved the car & moved it back, unbelievable,” he wrote.

Garmin-Sharp climber Dan Martin had been looking forward to the Mont Faron stage but indicated that he would likely not be able to start. “Please RT. Stolen bikes. 16 brand new di2 equiped cervelo R5. Still with race numbers. #couldntmakeitup no race today then,” he tweeted.

The team’s sole chance of competing rested on the race organisation or other teams giving them bikes to use. However the situation is clearly not ideal, with the precise setup of their own bikes very difficult to replicate at such short notice.

In the last few minutes team rider Michel Kreder has indicated that such an offer was made, but the team won’t carry on. “Latest news.. Different teams want to give us bikes to race on.. But it's not the same feeling as our own bikes so we will not race today.”

The team’s riders have appealed for people to watch out for the bikes on Ebay and other such marketplace sites.

Thieves have struck other teams in the past, with Team Type I losing its bikes in March 2011. It was forced to withdraw from the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali as a result.

Just spotted a guy riding a SS I'm certain was not his own.

Black cougar track frame (vintage?), white decals, risers, flat pedals, black chainring.
Frame either 50 or 52 cm.

Spotted early Sat morning in Shoreditch High St. There is no way in hell the wretch riding it would have the tools/money/interest in building up a nice conversion like that.

soma rush stolen wednesday 20th february evening, N1 Angel

Hello, wish I would never have to post something like this. Here are the specs of my stolen bike from N1, Angel.

Soma rush black frame (haven't seen one similar in 2years in london) huge dent on top tube right side, wheels token C30A white (haven't seen it in any other london bike yet). Cinelli pepper white drivepost And light blue lizzardskin handlegrip, white turbo saddle and use alien seatpost limited edition dark blue (some nibbles as souvenir attached to the saddle). tyres rubino pro, white front, black rear.
Miche advanced black for the crankset and izumi Vchain to follow the torque.

How to make sure it's mine: huge dent on top tube right side, after someone tried to stole it. Paper sticker on top tube getting off, and stickers "couleur3" on top of downtube. Front wheels had also a dent.

I'm kind of desesperate to have lost this piece of history, therefore I will be glad and thankful if anyone has any details about it (reward for).

To finish, stolen Wednesday 20th of february 2012, during evening in N1 Angel from my work building.

Thanks again for your attention.

TfL are doing a survey on bike theft:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Cycletheftlondon2013

I find it a little limited, e.g. it only asks about 'your bike' (I mean, who only has one bike?) but perhaps it'll give them some data they can use.

Re: soma stolen

There was some guy on leather lane trying to sell that bike to the couriers and full city so I have asked them to keep the lookout for the guy.
Sorry about that but maybe speak to the couriers or shop for details.
Best of luck

Whites token wheels with rubino pro on both, white at front, black at rear.
White cinelli bar and stem, with light blue lizzard skin.

If it sounds the same, I really appreciate your help :)

Also, I reported to the local police in camden passage, helpful with a big connection from my employer, here is a direct number if you spot it, call them please.
Angel police team, 07769 586 996

Also, if anyone knows how to contact some courriers and spread the word.

Thank you so much.

I have more details about this story.

First of all, instead two guys at my workplace taking the rubbish out, was only one this evening (wednesday), it gives enough time for someone to pop into the corridor with the door left open and run away with the bike. I've found with the shoppers around that it has a dodgy guy fooling around, description is short white bold guy, 35ish. Around same time as the person takes the bins out.

Thanks, from a great help from a forumer who seen my bike around leather lane market, chancery lane trying to sell it.

I wouldn't do any conclusion so easily but it seems the same guy who was with my bike on the market.

Have been working all night, will do tomorrow check for private camera around camden passage but it has only few.

I'm confident, will check brick lane too, and will give flyers tomorrow in critical mass. Same orange messenger bag for me but different bike.

Thanks so much, please keep reading :)

Endorfin bike stolen

I was with a friend at the Crown in Angel earlier this evening, and his Endorfin mountain bike was stolen while we were inside at approximately 7:30.

They cut through the cables and obviously used a crowbar to get the D locks off. There were a few other bikes taken at the same time. They managed to get one of my locks off too, but must have been sacred off before finishing the job.

Anyway if anyone sees this bike please get in touch with Daniel (07912514393), he is offering £200 for its return.
