Birmingham! Come to Sheffield in July!
-
This is Sheffield's awesome crew organising their famous & beloved tournament under the pseudonym Biff Clanger this year. If you’d like to join us, please fill in the form to register:
https://goo.gl/forms/mUWO1OsIVSTPXFF43Dates: 8th and 9th of July, 2017
Location: Shoreham Street, Sheffield
Format: ABC Swiss rounds on the 1st day, 2 sets of double eliminations for the 2nd day
Registration fee: £12 per player - we'll give you PayPal & bank details for payment after you signed up to secure your spot!To build on the previous years’ success, we are again aiming to provide a weekend of fun, inclusive, friendly polo for all scenes.
To ensure games are as closely matched as possible, the format will be an ABC format over two days.
On the first day, we'll play Swiss Rounds (should be at least 4 rounds, maybe 5, if we are all very regimented). On the Sunday, we'll split the seeding from the Swiss rounds into two separate double-eliminations, with the aim of making for really close games right the way through the finals.
Teams: We'll aim to sort out ABC teams at least one week in advance of the tournament - as such, the deadline for registering as a player will be the 1st of July. We should be able to cater for up to 16 teams (with tight scheduling).

Here is the 48 players who registered to make the 16 teams at Cliffhanger in a few weeks time. We'll leave registration open for now & take a few 'extras' in case there is dropouts (last year there was 3-4, I think). I've messaged all who made it on the list, hope you got my emails with further details.

Note that the Festival has moved to the city centre, thus we’re organising our event at Shoreham Street (rather than Millhouses Park).

Thank you to all - I've sent £500 to NICE, Birmingham where Viki worked. Today is her birthday and I thought this would be a great way to remember her. And how does this donation make a difference? From the NICE website:
£100 could pay for an adult with Parkinson’s to attend our “Write BIG” project, helping them to improve their writing skills, a vital skill often lost as a result of the condition
£250 could help subsidise funding for an adult for one year
£500 could provide 10 free sessions for an adult
This is from the email response:
"Thank you for donating to the Foundation for Conductive Education which is a leading UK charity based at the National Institute of Conductive Education working to improve the lives of children and adults with neurological motor disorders. Your donations literally transforms lives. Thank you for your generosity."

Purple SoYo Polo Co t-shirts for £20 (+£1 for post)
WHY PURPLE? The poloverze lost a gorgeous and fun member and a good friend recently under tragic circumstances. Viki played bike polo in Birmingham for two years - she played at UK tourneys as well at last year's Hells Bells. She also came to visit us in Sheffield multiple times, winning our local trophy for 'dick moves' last February. At last year's Cliffhanger she played on team 'Banana Space Rockets' in a purple T-shirt, downing multiple of the similarly called cocktails and still 'kicking ass'. To remember her sense of fun and love for this colour (referring to the Gogol Bordello song), we have printed this year's SoYo Polo Co t-shirts in purple. The proceeds go to the charity she worked at called the National Institute for Conductive Education (NICE) in Birmingham. They work with disabled adults using conductive pedagogy and are currently raising money for their work.
HOW TO ORDER? Message us at soyopoloco at yahoo.com with the following information: size of t-shirt AND postal address or pick up point/time. We'll then send you the details for payment methods and will post your t-shirt to you (or arrange for delivery).
Here is how we're doing so far & what sizes are left: google sheet on sales
EVENT ALERT the Birmingham lot are organising a throw in day and BBQ to remember Viki on the 2nd of August. (FB event) We'll happy to bring you the t-shirt here if you're around!
