I've been cycling round London since 1995, and I can assure you it's been pretty fucking angsty all the time. Probably why it's taken me nearly 20 years to learn just to chill the fuck out rather than getting wound up about it.
I concur, been commuting regularly since the early 90's and there was always an element of aggression from all on the road. The one factor I think has compounded the situation is the increased volume of cars, peds, trucks, bikes, etc on the road nowadays.

UK didn't always have that smooth a relationship with the Irish Republic !
(though maybe Salmond could seize the Prince's St Pie shop one morning and proclaim the new Scottish Republic)
Of course, that said however my father was living in Ireland since the late 80's and travelling by ferry (pre-Schengen) from Swansea to Cork involved no passport checks whatsover.

What will happen about immigration? If independent Scotland doesn't get accepted into the EU then will Scots have to apply for visas if they want to live/work down here? Will Scots already living here have to register as aliens and then apply for leave to remain? What about access to the NHS and benefits? Will the what's left of the UK government put other restrictions in place like they did with Bulgarians and Romanians?
Weird but I can't see any reason why it couldn't happen....
I suspect in that scenario some sort of relationship like the one the UK had with the Republic of Ireland prior to the latters membership of the EU would take effect (passport control? what passport control! :D ).
