'Why the 4 year gap on your CV?'
'That's when I went to Yale.'
'Impressive, you're hired.'
'Thanks, I really need this yob.'
That’s great. I’ve just watched some of that. I’ll watch some more when I get back from my walk.
That’s a big target. I thought I walked a lot. Just checked to see how far I’ve walked this month. 170 miles.
Must get out more!
Groups of 6 riders concerned about the lack of action on climate change.
DM me for more info.
Just had that playing in the background at home. Lovely. Sounds like a tropical rainforest.
Incredible aren’t they!
In a couple of weeks they’ll be joined by noisy youngsters begging for food but at least the parents won’t have to fly back to the nest with it.
There’s a bike swarm action planned for 9 May.
Small groups of six riders widely dispersed around London. If anyone is keen to take part send me a DM and I’ll connect you to a channel for more info.
I’ve recorded 21,500 in the pool but not recorded my open water swims.
I stopped short last night at the pool with cramp in my calf after 1500m which was a shame as I still had 20 minutes left in the session.
I had a lovely moon lit unplanned swim the other night. Went to the lake with the dog and without swimming gear then couldn’t resist the temptation to get in.
Bloody marvellous, bats zooming about, swam among sleeping geese without disturbing them.
I was planning on a lake swim tonight but for a cancellation at the lido just now so I’ll head there for the exercise.
Vincent Price is taller than Katie Price! But heavier than Alan Price. As I found out on this Price comparison website.
There’s a warning that banks give out when you apply for a loan to pay for an exorcism.
If you miss out on repayments, you may get repossessed.
How do you keep your car so shiny?
jak utrzymujesz swój samochód tak lśniący?
You don’t have to do anything. (Except leave them in peace) and be warned that adult tawny owls are ferocious defenders if their nests!
You might like to contact Herts bird group. https://www.hnhs.org/herts-bird-club/management-committee
Their ringer Jenny Sherwen might be interested / brave enough to ring them!
This is my neighbourhood just west of Reading. I’ve swum in most of the lakes and some bits of the river system but there’s still lots of exploring to be had. The closest to where I live (eastern end) is a 40 minute walk from home. My favourite lake is home to one the largest freshwater fish in the uk which adds a bit of spice to swims there.
It’s about 90 acres of water in several bays with islands and the banks are all woodland so it feels really secluded.
There also the bit of excitement in ignoring all the no swimming notices. I have no idea how anyone could ever deal with it!
If you can hear baby owls now they are more likely to be tawny owls. They nest earlier than barn owls and around now the young often sit outside the nest calling. Have a check of the sounds. The juvenile tawny owl call is more owl like than the weird hissing of the young barn owls.
In my experience they’ll use a box throughout the year. Once the young fledge they may well still roost there or use other boxes nearby. I think it depends on the availability of shelter. Assume it’s their home from now on!
A barn owl no less.
Now of course you can’t touch the owl box you made. You need to find a licensed person to check the nest and perhaps ring the young if you think they breed there.
Hedgehogs declined due to the application of insecticides in vast quantities. The remaining starving population is vulnerable to predation by badgers who are similarly finding food hard to find at certain times of the year for the same reason.
Providing lots of insect rich habitat will help but it’s probably a losing battle.
Hares of course need a very different environment. Are there any nearby?
Are you tempting Russian hackers to take down LFGSS?
My open air lido opened Monday. I’ve managed to get three bookings in a row, and done 1300, 1500 and 1700 metres on consecutive evenings. I can really feel it today, even though the pace was best described as steady. Bloody marvellous to be back in though.
There’s a lot of goldcrests about at the moment as they migrate north. They sing quietly but at such a high frequency they’re not very obvious. Once you get to recognise the song you see loads, and they have little fear of humans. Stand still and they may come quite close. I had one perch fleetingly on my hat a few years ago, I would never have noticed but my friend saw it.
They like to hang around in conifers. Leylandii hedges in suburban gardens are very popular.
Just after Christmas we rescued Doris, an English bull terrier from Hungary. I suspect she was used as a bait dog to train fighting dogs, and she certainly had a lot of puppies. She’s about 5.
Sadly after 3 months of trying to rehabilitate her we finally threw in the towel and took her back to the rescue organisation we got her from. She’s a very sweet dog, but she reacted really badly to Rita if there was ever any excitement and almost killed her on 3 occasions.
Rita isn’t much bigger than a Guinea pig.
Once Doris started, Luna, who is the size of a pony steamed in.
We’re pretty heartbroken as she was a really lovely little dog.
Yeah. That’s a massive own goal. The conspiracy theorist in me suggests that the violence may well have been a ploy to make the point.
Send the hard right in to a lefty protest to make it look as bad as Patel wants it to be seen.
It’s very murky out there.
Very jealous. Fabulous little birds. Where was this?
I’ve been searching my neighbourhood for them this year. March is the only time they make much noise so if they’re about and you know what they sound like listening is a good way to find them. So far I’ve not heard them. Quite sad really, they used to be quite frequent. The last nest I know they used was in a small tree and it got smashed up by a greater spotted woodpecker.
My mp is that toadying climate change denier that’s been appointed to preside over COP26. Sharma.
He replies really quickly but entirely vacuously. One of my friends is really impressed by the speed he replies. I asked if any of the replies were meaningful. She admitted they weren’t but she’s happy that at least she got a letter.
But he’s not as big a cunt as Rees Mogg.
