Thanks man, I’m wondering if there’s something to be said for the fact people have been having accidents there often enough for the council to have been called, but no action taken. I always see cyclists on this road coming in both directions, it’s a popular route that avoids the roundabout so always has bike traffic on it.
If I see the builders on my commute Monday morning I’ll stop for a chat with them to see if they know if anything was handled. In any case I owe them a packet of chocolate digestives for the attention and care they gave me when they saw the fall.

Hit the deck pretty hard this morning in Southwark (rockingham st), lip is all busted up and knee and elbow took some damage. Builders came out to help and explained five other people this morning have had similar accidents. They apparently have appealed to council to grit this area but to no avail. Do I have a case for compensation against the council? I don’t earn much and am a contractor so lost earnings combined with damage to the bike hits me substantially.
I’ll remember to stick to main roads next time it’s this cold!

Sadly no. On the front they did without issue but the rear proved too brittle and the araldite cracked on both sides after one too many pothole bashes. I wonder if the cold had anything to do with it.

Right so these failed completely, I tried and failed. Next plan: break out the polymorph:

I recon the araldite was simply to brittle to take the abuse, and was always going to crack and fracture. There needs to be some shock absorption or a softer material. So I’ll rubber cement these on and follow up with a couple of cable ties. Not as elegant as I’d planned but fuck it. I’ll always settle for function over form if I can’t get it to work aesthetically. Follow up to come.
