A few days on & just wanted to update, and thank all again for your kind thoughts. It's not getting any easier, and still doesn't seem likely or believable.
Chiara, like anyone killed on the road, is more than a stat, whatever the timing of her death. The Standard's piece is actually pretty good in giving a fuller picture (they obviously did a bit of trawling to find out more), but doesn't mention that Chiara was a very experienced cyclist. She was also extremely responsible and aware. No mention that she was using a "cycle lane".
A friend phoned me from the place on Thursday afternoon, & I went to leave flowers (one of the grimmest experiences of my life) at the weekend. I'm not sure if the flower place is where she was hit, or maybe has been moved?, but even at the weekend I could tell it's a sneakily horrible bit of road. (A couple of us had reckoned her new job commute, East-West Dulwich, would be loads nicer and safer than her old Tate one around Vauxhall or the Elephant.) I didn't hang round long. but it looks to me & friend (don't want to get into dangerous conjecture at all) like the road is too narrow for the number of lanes - filter lanes both directions for motors, with a bend. Add a large vehicle, and eg. distraction / excess speed / lapse in attention and it's not good. The cycle lanes on both sides are stupidly narrow, & look like in a few weeks will be full of leaves and road dirt run-off.
There was no yellow 'incident witness' sign I could see. Not sure if they don't go up straight away, or if it was elsewhere. If anyone can update on this that would be good. The driver's been arrested / bailed to December.
V early discussions in family / bikey friends about anything to do next, eg donations / publicity / ghost bike??. There's no rush with any of that. I got some great info from Oliver S about Roadpeace, and LCC of course.
To be honest right now it all seems futile as none of it will bring her back, and it seems totally crass to think in terms of anything good coming from our lovely Chiara's death. I'm feeling the environment for cyclists in London is broken beyond repair; so much depends on good will and responsible attitudes. In the UK we've gone too far the other way and the roads do seem to be just a battleground with very unfair rules of engagement.
Sorry to vent slightly – hope y'all understand it's from the heart. Ride safely.

This is my lovely and very good friend, all who knew her are devastated - she was a lifelong cyclist and very road savvy. She wasn't on here, but thanks for kind thoughts which I'll let family & other friends know about - no names here out of respect for privacy. Please do leave thoughts / flowers at the spot if you're passing.

A bit late (4th April cut-off?) but friend's just fallen sick & the idea of riding round town for hours on Sat fills her with concern rather than excitement (think it's looking a bit Paula Radcliffe). So - her number may be free, if it's still do-able, for someone / friend of etc. on here. PM if you're interested..

Yep - that's him defo, our lucky charm in green! Thanks, been google-stalking him trying to figure. Touched his hand. U25 Development squad ftw! (in a bit)
Good times - cheers all. Can't believe I had to buy emergency survival clothing. Typical Halfords efficiency, starting the race 40mins late.. (grumble grumble)
Ooh, telly's starting. Might get me ma to set the vid. -

I'm in for this, already booked on southwark coach before I checked this thread (I'm sure it'll be fine! delays last year with the van they'd booked - hopefully a one-off).
Cliveo: slow / supportive / sociable / sensible suits me, I will try & look out for you & others of that mind. Doing ladies Brighton outing end of June, & some other longish rides out if I can sort them (will PM Peter re: the offer of an Epping epic as preparation).
It will be mega - heard about DD for years but not been about. -

I had a great morning, thanks Gerald for starting the thread & being a charming gent all round. & sorry again for misinterpreting your 'Oy!' in Wapping- would've gladly joined your company, was being a bit Dunkirk at the rear & slow on uptake. Thanks Bernie for being another gent during the last half mile in the pissdown, & very nice to meet others too in the caffs. Well done leading groups – I salute you.
Reckon with lostness / missing bits / adding bits I did a unique & special 26+ - consider this a personal win on a truly unsuitable bike ('boneshaker'- apt. Also 'fanny twatter', 'heavy shit' etc).
Going into work at 10ish was a nause but still got a glow from a lovely early morning caper in good company through mostly closed streets.
More rides.
Hi. Didn't see at the time ( I haven't really been on my bike at all since Sept : / , so not even lurking on here!), but thanks Oliver for posting re: the non-prosecution decision. I was, and am, absolutely gutted based on what I know about Chiara's death.
Anyway, onwards...
There's a fundraising ride leading up to the anniversary of her death. 2 of Chi's friends are riding from Tate St Ives to Tate Britain (Chiara worked at Tate 2005 to 2013, and only left a couple of weeks before her death - was a big part of her life, & she was a big & loved part of Tate in a totally good non-wanky/cunty way). They're raising funds for HEMS - the London air ambulance, which attended at the scene but couldn't save our pal. They do great work. More info: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/tatetotate
I'm about to leave LDN (still working here, but not paying to sleep here!), & lookin fwd to being back on the bike for fun. I'll be doing something for Chiara next June which I'll post here too & hope that's ok. Thanks for being here, forumengers or whatevs. X
