Just start... Its sucks when you start. The good news it sucks when you can skip for 2 mins too... Just keep restarting... Those gaps made up of fuck ups will get less and less.
Rope needs to be right length which will get shorter as you get better.
Try a pvc rope to start. It's the right sort of weight and flex. Also cheap as chips if you hate it.

If you get it and yous tart enjoying it, buy a better rope. For me it was one with a smooth ball bearing action. Makes it go whoosh.
