I was one of the last few pedestrians allowed to cross the bridge at around 6pm. The accident happened on the south side of the bridge just after the lights. Not sure if the VW Golf was involved as it was pointing south and about 30 metres from the accident (maybe it ran into a car as everyone hit the brakes).
What I saw was an X5 had gone up the back of a small white van. Next to the van (which was obstructing my view - not that I really wanted to see what was happening) the ambulance guys were given some serious CPR to the injured person. Did not look good. A female was leaning against the X5 breaking down in tears (possibly a driver of one of the cars).
I ride to work 2 days a week and find the merge heading south and turning right is very dangerous.
The crazy thing is that as cars were trying to perform a u-turn to get out of the built up traffic a cyclist comes flying down from the bridge at 40+ km/h weaving in and out of traffic and almost runs straight into a turning car. The cyclist shouts abuse and punches the car.
I would have thought that having just ridden past a fallen fellow cyclist would have made this guy think about how he rides in traffic. Some people never learn.
Finers crossed, but it really did not look very good at all
