lads!
made it to melbourne a couple of weeks ago. went out to the boonies today to buy a polo bike. its nowt special (early 90's trek mountain bike) but it will do the trick for starters. i'm going down to my first melbourne polo session on tuesday night. it's a 12 mile commute so i'm hoping it will be good! what's the craic over there? how was the glasgow tourney?

Sadly, this is going to be my last northern hemisphere polo for a while tonight. To mark this change of guard in Newcastle polo I propose a change of venue. Which venue is worthy of sending off such an esteemed and well respected pillar of the community? Gateshead of course. It has a light smattering of feral children, broken glass in all the right places and is bathed in an orange sodium glow until 9pm.
Who's in?

Hello Newcastle polo. Just a wee update from Melbourne. Been playing pretty regular polo. Court situation is pretty similar to the toon in that there is no decent flood lit court and the weekend court is a little sketchy. There are plans for a league which would mean paying a membership fee so we can rent a really nice venue with flood lights, space to store edging etc. numbers are pretty good. Usually get enough for 3 throw in piles on a Sunday. Quality is also pretty high. There's a nationals happening in Perth in march which I'm hoping to get to as well. So I thought it was about time that I bought a decent polo bike. I was going to wait until I could afford something custom but my hand was forced as I snapped my temporary frame playing on Tuesday night! Got myself a surly 1x1 frame and forks. Middleburn crank set. 50mm race face stem, double pull lever going to front and rear discs. 26" setup with fat frank tyres so I can bounce about. Also went for the double cog at the back so I can cycle home at a decent pace. Playing in a small tourney this weekend. First time out for me with the bike. So far really liking it! Anyway hope you guys are managing to get some polo in through the mental weather. Here's a wee pic of the new machine.
