Scored an old frame, and after I get my hands on a wheel I just need to replace the cranks, cables, tyres and tubes to get rolling.

would prefer a flip/flop hub...

feeling pretty dumb here... I was just about to try and take my cranks off an old beater (that I hope to turn into a single speed, if I dont scew it up) - but not sure what was stripped here?

The cranks in the pic look similar to mine, except 100 years older (although I'm yet to get a 14mm socket to remove the bolt), but once that bolt is out, there's nothing holding the crank onto the spindle right? (except pressure)

should just slip out right?

or...

was was it a gear puller, that you were screwing into the spindle to prise the crank off...?

You could try freecycle - join a few lists and submit a "wanted" post or just keep an eye out for people getting rid of bikes. I got a complete bike for nufin. It aint perfect, but it was the right price and hopefully will be able to convert it for cheap...
