it seems the cycle unit has been disbanded...
An email to hackneycyclecrimeunit@met.pnn.police.uk yesterday bounced.
Might be worth updating the thread at the top?

pah, how dare you. I dont 'just cycle around', I go hard!
if you're just worried you're too fat and will break a wheel just cycling around, http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=17152 is going to be fine.

Have a couple of parts lying around from a converted old beater and I thought I'd offer them here (may be of value to someone?). Not exactly SS, but they're going in the bin if no one wants them...
Rear Derailleur & Front Derailleur, and levers
I can arrange a drop in north London if anyone is interested. (ummm.... and and I cant split them, sorry)

feeling pretty dumb here... I was just about to try and take my cranks off an old beater (that I hope to turn into a single speed, if I dont scew it up) - but not sure what was stripped here?
The cranks in the pic look similar to mine, except 100 years older (although I'm yet to get a 14mm socket to remove the bolt), but once that bolt is out, there's nothing holding the crank onto the spindle right? (except pressure)
should just slip out right?
or...
was was it a gear puller, that you were screwing into the spindle to prise the crank off...?
did I just answer my own question?
