Found a Suzue basic hub with a standard axle on ebay. Lubed it up well and put a 175mm axle in - perfect.
A good thing, but in this case a problem, with many rear hubs is that they have flanges on their axles related to the sealed bearings of the hub, like this:

Not only is it hard to find a replacement axle, but I never found one longer than the original.

Ok I'm gonna try dismantling the hub and take a look at the axle. The trailer attaches by a simple tube and lock mechanism which is held between the dropout/forkend and the track nut.
I went into Kiwi Cycles today and it was suggested that I get the frame rear spacing adjusted Sheldon style (i.e. with a wooden plank and a lot of leverage). -

I have a Suzue rear hub with sealed bearings, 120mm spacing, like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Suzue-Sealed-Rear-Hub-Black-Oldschool-BMX-NOS
It's on a new 126mm spaced frame (unlike my old 120mm)
I am going on a bike tour in the summer and will need to use a trailer which attaches to the rear axle, outside the frame, but the axle's now not wide enough. Can anyone suggest a way of solving this, be it replacing the axle or replacing the hub? If the hub needs replacing I'd need a freewheel hub, or flip/flop, and about a 175mm axle, or the ability to fit a 175mm axle. -
You interested in a swap for either a pair of black 28 hole CXP33's or silver 36h CXP33's ? Both sets are brand new, I want something more traditional than the black cxps and the missus has just changed her mind on silver for upgraded wheels on her road bike. It'd have to be by post though as I'm in Bristol.
If you'll send the silver CXP33s for ~£65 to London I'll have them off you

one rear wheel with:
Silver Mavix cxp 33 rim 700c with 36 holes
36 x 14g DT Champion stainless 2mm spoke and 12mm brass nipple 286mm length
Silver Sturmey Archer 5 Speed Freewheel Hub with Gear Control S5 - 36 Hole
(no rim tape)
the wheel is 2 years old, the hub gears are broken i.e. the wheel spins freely. so probably only the rim and spokes are salvageable
