I was there just before the police, but didn't see the accident. He was in a very bad way, his face and head were badly damaged and he was unconscious but he came round later. The paramedic said they would bring in a helicopter.
I left my details with a policeman before going to work but didn't hear anything. Do you know how he got on?

I got a pair of the white ones from the first batch in the Jan sales for £45. They're great to ride in, I've been riding normal eras since Sept and you can tell the difference. The material is a bit tougher but the biggest difference is that the sole is stiffer which means better power transfer, a nicer platform to stand on and your pedals don't make holes in the soles of your shoes. Mine came with a little saddle bad that matches the colour of my bike too haha. Anyway, if you've got the cash get some!

Hi, I'm one of the lurkers that lives in the shadows of this forum and voyeuristically soaks up its accumulated knowledge. Sorry for leeching for so long.
Anyway I wanted to ask (if it's not too great a taboo) how often is too often when it comes to falling off?
Since moving back to SE London in September, selling my car and purchasing a shiny bike I have taken two falls (not counting when I've been fucking about). Nothing more than bruises and road rash each time, but each time it happens I think about the risk I take every day. I am not going to stop riding, and I realise in a strange way (and as a skateboarder) that the risk is part of the fun. I guess what I want to hear are you opinions and stories on the subject. Or if this is just one of those things you're not meant to talk about tell me to shut up and I'll let it go

I came off this morning at a dodgy junction by a little park near kenninton tube. It's a raised roundabout really smooth tarmac and apparently icy as fuck at 8.00 in the morning so watch out. Had both wheels wash out and slid for ages but somehow both me and the bike escaped relatively unscathed. The slide was kinda fun in a way too, once I realised I was OK. Got to rate MKS Sylvan pedals, the dust cap took the full brunt of the slide but the pedal still runs great! Hope they get the gritters down the small roads tomorrow!

+1 in retrospect 10.3 would be better, i noticed my mac slow up a bit when i went to 10.4 but it was pretty much out of use by then so wasn't too much of an issue.
maybe bump your RAM up a bit as it's pretty cheap to do so. Crucial are pretty good for it
http://www.crucial.com/ukDefinitely upgrade the RAM if possible my 3.5 year old powerbook G4 had a second lease of life after I gave it some more memory, feels faster than my new work laptop running windows!

Very useful thread! I'm getting my first fixed gear bike and my budget is around £500 so the first section is great. It would be really useful to have more opinions next to the bikes and maybe even a overall best choice. I really like the look of the plug racer but I'm weary of all the heavy comments, how much heavier is it?

My Surly Steamroller was stolen from a "secure" bike store in Bermondsey in the last ten days while I was on holiday. They cut through a Kryptonite D lock so don't appear to have been in a rush. I discovered it was missing this morning and have reported it to the police.
The bike was bought new from Brixton Cycles. The photo shows how it looked before it was stolen.
Frame: Surly Steamroller 56 cm (black)
Wheels: H Plus Son Archetype rims on Condor hubs
Saddle: Brooks B17 Champion Special
I have the frame number on the original receipt so should be straightforward to prove it's mine.
I'm no longer fixed and will have to commute with gears, please give me a shout if you see it.
Thanks!
