Heh, on to the next thing..I'm finding it pretty hard to find a 110 single chainring in 1/8 size. Saw one on sjs but it's 3/32. I thought I'd go 1/8 as it seems easier to get decent bits in that size. Any ideas where I can find a decent selection of 1/8 chainrings with 110 BCD, preferably online? I've found a few that are inner/outer rings for double/triple sets, but I assumed I should go with one specifically intended to be used as a single.

Cheers for that tip, yet another acronym (BCD) I hadn't encountered. I'll measure it on the existing spider. For a single chainring being fitted to a spider for a triple, would you normally fix it to the inner bolt holes or the outer, if that makes sense? If I can re-use the existing crankarms I will as this is supposed to be a budget project- although I will probably upgrade components over time.

Cheers for the advice folks.
Re the chainrings, the current ones (triple) are knackered and beyond re-use. I guess I can just take a single chainring and fit it to the existing spider, right?
Re hubs, I think I'll go with the Goldtecs so. The other option was System Ex or Quando hub but these seem to be budget options, I'd shell out the bit extra for the Goldtecs if they're that good.
I don't carry heavy loads or have an unfeasibly large arse or gonads, so 32h 3x it is :)
Just re swapping cranks to adjust chainline, how does that work? I can see how fitting spacers or swapping out the BB would help in adjusting it alright.

Howdy
Have been lurking here for a bit, trying to glean info for my budget fixed conversion of an old Raleigh frame (it's been painted black, looks like an old hybrid type frame). I have also been scouring all the usual sites online, including Sheldon Brown, 63xc.com, etc, etc. But I still have a few questions that I haven't been able to answer yet, so hoping you'll be able to help. I'm still kinda green when it comes to mechanical stuff, but am learning.
Should I be looking to replace the crank/crankarms on this bike? As far as I can see, I should be able to just put a new chainring on the current spider. I'm trying to figure out if I need to remove/replace the crank and arms or not. The crank is secured by a standard bolt, not sure what size but I have the socket for it. Am probably suffering from some strange irrational foreboding that removing the crank will unleash beasties. I have the tools required (for beasties and crank).
Looking at a Goldtec track hub- what are the differences in terms of the number of drill holes- does more spokes mean the wheel will be stronger?
If I buy/build a rear wheel (rear dropouts are 135mm) and if chainline is off, will I be able to rectify this via spacing/swapping BB, without having to replace the hub? I don't want to shell out money for a hub and find out that my noobness has caused me to p*ss money away. I guess I'm asking is there a way I can make sure of the viability of this frame/project in advance?
I can post pics of any parts of the bike if that helps.
It's a little humiliating having lots of dumbass questions, but gots to start somewhere.
Thanks
Excellent stuff, that makes my life a lot easier, cheers.
