Wheels that take impacts in directions that they are not intended to be strong - especially carbon fibre ones - fail.
Haussler weighs around 70kg, let's say his bike is another 7kg - travelling at 60kph? That's a pretty heavy impact for any wheel to take laterally. It looks like the carbon just cracked - at least ensuring that some of the energy from the collision went into that. I won't stop riding carbon rims because of it :-)

I've gone for the gel padded bar tape, on wide Deda bars. Unfortunately could not get my existing Profile Dromo which I rode @ Flanders to fit with new SRAM Red.
I am now pondering the pavé tyres.
I discussed riding the R3 with Sigma, who didn't seem too worried by the concept. And got it insured for racing.
After my ride today, I'm still thinking 260k.
Talking with Nhatt @ the Tour Series, she's doing 100k, or maybe 150k, with all sorts of changes! :-)

I was there, only a few pics as it was too cold for getting the camera out lots - http://rob.sh/img/team-sky-launch/
There was some nutter on fixed wearing shorts and a short sleeved top - mad! And I think I did hear mention of this forum.
It was a nice ride, had a good chat with Swifty and a few words with Wiggins and Dave Brailsford, worth taking the morning off work for.

If there are any skilled linux sysadmins who would like to help me nail this rather than me just leaving me to wing it... then please let me know.
I can probably give a hand with this, and some space for off-site backups if you need them. I've got a couple of personal boxes in two different facilities in London.
Drop me a mail if I can be of any help.

having been reminded by mike about this I find that the planets are aligning to enable me to do this so I'm in! One question though what time does the greenwich foot tunnel open? With a 7.30 start I don't really want to detour via tower bridge from blackheath.
Open 24x7, just the lifts open at 7AM and close at 7PM I believe.

I was thinking of going to the recently re-opened Whitechapel Gallery over the weekend -- anyone been? (http://www.whitechapelgallery.org/)

The accident was turning into Foskett Road where it comes off New Kings Road. I live just on Munster Road and was just leaving the house - the guy seemed to be responsive to the paramedics who'd just arrived, but I couldn't see anything further. Numerous witnesses were present at the scene. The paramedics were ominously treating the guy under the lorry, and his bike was crushed under the front wheels. I do hope he is OK.
Please be careful riding down there, since at the moment there's more traffic backing up onto NKR than is usual due to the fact that there's roadworks on Putney Bridge again, and it's a popular route to cycle along.
