Bought this at a jumble sale in 2007, rode for about 6mo and to my shame split it out & has been in dry storage ever since. Was resprayed before I bought it, flam red with gold lug lining. Has round blade forks with big rake & super thin pencil stays, 120mm rear spacing, 27.2mm seatpost etc. Serial number dates it to 1950/51. Size-wise, I make it just under 24" seat tube & 23.5" top tube as per photos (Carpenter apparently did sizes to the 1/4" so maybe it's 23 3/4" x 23 1/4"?). I haven't ridden it in 10yrs, but I remember it being very lightweight for the size & riding quite springy / comfy (I got just cold feet about trashing it riding it around town & locking it up etc).
The bad - already had the tiny top tube ding before I got it, has lost a tiny bit of paint from being built up and from not doing up my track nuts tight enough one time (but nothing that would really be visible when built).
Anyway, would keep it but it's not been built or ridden in years & I need the space, so it's gotta go!
Includes headset, GB spearpoint stem & Maes bars.
Asking £100 collected from Brockley SE4 (no postage unless I get desperate!)

not necessarily - article says the new owners are aquapac, whose own site says "80% of our products are handmade in the UK".
I'd be surprised if they move production of the traditional bags (i.e. duck cotton, leather straps), but surely they'll overhaul the fully-waterproof range with help from Aquapac staff & try to take some marketshare from Ortlieb? (nb. this is all just wild speculation....) -

very interested in those for better folded rolling, but is it going to block the dynamo rear light tho? this photo doesn't look great for that... 😒https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/images/products/medium/57385_1.jpg

for sure the Thorn. my tuppence:
- the trek fork isn't original and /hard to tell but/ looks slightly longer? our old tandem came with a longer-than-stock fork which we switched out for a same-length-as-stock fork & it improved the handling - on the tandem the longer fork felt like it flopped over more quickly on leaning, which (personal opinion) made it feel more susceptible to body weight movement from the stoker & thus less controllable from the pilot. (maybe less of a worry with a kiddyback vs two adults tho?)
- good v-brakes have been fine for us for loaded two-adult touring, I wouldn't worry about discs
- take off the mudguards, paselas & rack and get some knobblies on the Thorn?

What do people reckon to the conti urban contact tyres? Marathons (hs420) have been fine for commuting the last couple of years (no punctures), but I've virtually worn the tread off the rear so maybe time for something new.... fairly laden when commuting - 8kg front bag + 8kg rucksack + 80kg rider...

that sounds like the 19" size, according to https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/d/3372-2/orange_1997_brochure.pdf - too small for me but glws, love these bikes

the middle black post & the brutish silver post - how long are they? just discovered that the 350mm post I was hoping to put in a frame is way too long... (prob need something in the 190mm-250mm range)
