I only said £600 to get the ball rolling...get a bit of haggling on the go! I will tell him about the splitting so people can just make offers here I suppose (full bike or parts) and I will see what he says. It is a lovely frame though and considering it is a conversion it has a nice geometry to it and feels really solid.
Keep the offers rolling in and I will give him a shout tomorrow.
-
As I said it isn't my bike so I can't really say. He definitely wants to sell it but is unsure how much. If nobody makes a sensible offer here it will go on ebay I think. This isn't my friend's price but with them compnents and the condition of them (near enough brand new!) I would be thinking around the £600. Even if people think this is off the mark it might get the ball rolling.
Forgot to say it is located in Liverpool! Something may be able to be sorted though as he sometimes travels to London.

Elite Engineering in Aintree will strip and powder coat a frame for £50. They have done mine and a friends with good results. Ask to speak to John and make sure he knows that it is a thin steel frame (if it is) and he will charge you £50. If he thinks that it is an aluminium frame (with large areas) and possibly will have filler smoothing the aero sections (like mine had) he will probably run a mile after the nightmare he had with mine. He done my friends in a few days too.

Google is your friend.
nice one but I should have specified cheap ones. That place would set me back about £25 for 2 batteries and a charger! I have managed to find a UK supplier that does them for cheap and seems to be a nice bloke. sporting-kent on ebay:
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/sporting-kent/
He won't have them in for a week or so but he is doing a charger and 2 batteries for £9.99 and £2.99 postage. I presume they won't be the absolute best quality but a good starting point with the charger. You can also pick yourself up some riffle mounts that would enable you to mount a torch in line with a bar as opposed to perpendicular like the twofish blocks:

managed to get a nice little 250 lumens cree light for cheap off ebay but it doesn't come with batteries. I thought it would be easy to get the 18650 batteries it requires but they are bloody expensive! I would like to get 2 or 4 of them and a charger. does anyone know where is good to buy them that isn't hong kong!? I have just read something interesting which seems to make sense as the batteries are used in loads of different electrical appliances:

what do people make of this?

how long does delivery from deal extreme take. I generally don't like using sites like these...especially if they start bringing stuff in from china but payment via paypal seems OK to me. would you use the free postage or pay the £8 for better? did you get taxed when they got to England. I'm looking at that full package of a light, batteries and charger and it comes to £21 with the free postage or £29 with better postage. Would these fit into the twofish straps OK?

a pair of ultra gatorskins popped on me yesterday...big rip in the side of the tyre and tube. i bought these thinking they would reduce my punctures but I would say I have had way more than when I had schwalbe ultremos and even cheap tyres. gonna try the halo tyres maybe or the roubaix armadillo elite look quite good.

before...an ebay bargain carbon saddle with titanium rails:

after (i left the back because the awkward shape could have caused trouble and I liked the idea of leaving a bit of carbon):

and underneath where I sewed the front:

I know it looks a bit weird with the front loosing an inch of carbon fibre in a crash and it becoming a bit square but it doesn't bother me. I tried this out as a bit of a practice and didn't really measure the foam or leather...or take much care when doing it but I'm happy with it. I will probably re-cover this in the future and defo do it to any other saddles I have.
-
I've been using a full carbon saddle with no cover or padding for a while thinking my fat arse would provide sufficient padding! It is fine but a bit uncomfortable on any rides over 20 miles but not a major issue. The bit problem is that a bit snapped off the end so I filed it down but it started to wear away at the crotch on my jeans. After seeing this thread I decided to cover the saddle in leather. I bought a bag of scrap leather from a discount fabric place for 99p (which had about 3 pieces well big enough to cover a saddle and about 5 more pieces just too small (which could be used for other stuff like covering toe-clips I suppose). I didn't take much care measuring anything but I am more than pleased with the results. The whole job cost me about £3 (fabric, glue and 2mm thick foam) and I've got a nice comfy saddle now which doesn't rip my jeans. I will post before and after pics in a bit when I get my camera but I would highly recommend giving this a go. Nice one Jol and co for the tips!

this is fucking gay all this. i'm born and bread in liverpool and have had to put up with people ripping it all the time....until they come up here and have a laugh with the locals. besides the unfunny dickheads who automatically relate us to thieveing and not working, the rest of the country (minus mancs) all say we are some of the nicest people you could meet. i've got mates from all over who love coming up here. my bird is from london and loves coming up here all the time and says that she is treated better here then anywhere in london (people being rude, people mugging eachother for phones etc). i'm not knocking other places and won't until I've been there and met the people. I lived in Bow cause it was the place most like Liverpool (the neighbours actually said hello and were nice which makes a change in london). people only have a go at liverpool because they get a bite from us. the people of liverpool are a proud bunch and we have every reason to be. there isn't many places in the UK that the locals show so much pride...there must be something there for people to love it so much. and the race thing...I don't consider myself british, english o even northern...I consider myself a scouser. I'm happy with people giving it shit cos they are too ignorant to know better. i just laugh at them and then if they annoy me too much I might live up to their twisted stereotype and knock them out. scousers do know about ste french and I actually know him. he was a bad man in his day but he's actually quite sound. one of his kids lives in london now actually. my advice to scousers is to ignore dickheads having a go (plassy scaousers and wools can do this if they wish too!). they don't know any better and we are safe in the knowledge that we come from the best city in the world. say what you want...I'm not arsed and couldn't be bothered having a go about were you are from. no point people like that even coming to liverpool to see for themselves cos an attitude like that won't get you far here.

I bought a set a while back and was worried about riding them on the road being 15 stone with a tendency to be a bit rough on wheels. 6 months of use (back wheel only up to now though) and I'm well impressed. They are super light, threaded on both sides (which have not stripped like other wheels I have had) and perfectly strong enough for 'normal' riding. I got mine for cheap but even full price is worth it.

here's my latest build in the setup I use most (going to work and cruising about and that). Had a proper ball-ache with this frame. Didn't know it had a special filler on the aero bit on the front (the toblerone as my mates call it) and on the welds. This all popped when I had it powdercoated so it took ages to find similar metal filler and get it powder coated again (it has a really thick layer of satin black now). Then I couldn't get a headset to fit for ages but eventually got a pro-lite one to fit (which makes me think that my frame is more similar to the pro-lite ones than I thought). It is not 100% finished (need to cut the steerer down more once I'm 100% sure what height / stem combo I want) but is a nice solid ride with no toe overlap, is really stiff and fast. Managed to get everything on the cheap off ebay. Here's some shit pictures but you get the idea:
Here's the spec with some prices:
_Chance T1 frame (£150 new off ebay)
_Easton SL90 full carbon with a stupidly tight weave (£80 new off ebay)
_Navigator track wheels (brand new with ultremos for £120 off ebay)
_giant / fir composite wheel sprayed black (£40 off ebay)
_unknown carbon risers with black ourys
_fsa aluminium stem with cabon plate
_USE carbon seatpost (£30 off ebay)
_surprisingly comfortable unknown carbon seat ((£30 off ebay)
_black / silver KMC kool chain
_FSA vero crank (£40 new) until I get some FSA carbon ones or anything better for cheap
_Odyssey BMX lever and shimano 105 calliper (spaced out to clear the toblerone!)
_shitty MKS pedals, plastic double toe clips from brick lane and christophe nylon straps (gonna upgrade soon)
_continental ultra gatorskins (not ideal but were £20 for 2)For longer rides I put deda newton drops on (with salsa cross lever) and the front navigator wheel on
Not everyones cup of tea I'm sure but I'm happy with it and it was done surprisingly cheap really. Seen loads of bikes with the same or very similar frames (leader, pro-lite and Louis Garneau) and noticed the prices vary loads. Maybe different aluminium used but the welds on mine looked better than some of the more expensive ones. Just seen this today too which looks really similar (different headtube and seat tube but same everything else):

ice one to everyone who gave me a few pointers. I tried everything except the speed levers and bead jacks and what won in the end was a combination of stretching the tyre (dunno if it actually made a difference), making sure the bead was pushed right down in the rim, the cable-tie method (nice idea that) and a tyre lever to get the last bit on. Think I will be investing in one of them tools if it is a bastard to get back on next time.

Just putting a final price for the complete bike now before it goes on ebay. The price my mate is after is £400 complete. It can be picked up from Liverpool or posted at the buyers expense.
