Kental Coastal Marathon last Sunday, 03:26:56 (39/236). 56 minutes quicker than my pathetic effort back in FLM2009 and 10 minutes quicker than my PB from 2004. At halfway (01:39) I was pretty sure I had it in the bag, tagged onto 2 fellas who came past me and stayed with them to 22.5 miles, Chariots of Fire were Us. Then I finally cramped and resorted to my usual straight-legged-shuffle-cramp-shuffle-wee-shuffle-curse-cry-laugh etc, etc all the way home, my kids jogging the last 1/4 mile with me. I still have quite a stupid smile on my face. I never thought I'd crack the 3:30 mark. If I can sort out the cramp issues I could probably, maybe, just scrape a sub-3:20(!?).
Next up is Brighton 18th April, and I've also entered London again....if I get in I'm doing both. So to see how it might feel I trotted off yesterday (1 week after marathon, legs still quite tight) for my usual 13.1 miles around Richmond Park. Miles 10 onwards were hellish. I cannot imagine being able to get fit enough to do 2 marathons a week back-to-back. But what the hell.
Oddly, once I'd got my leg over the bike, cycling was a breeze, especially fixed...spinning seemed to ease my soreness, whereas freewheeling did little for it at all.
