I'm currently running a 48T chainring and a 17T cog on my Steamroller, which with 35mm tyres positions the rear wheel nicely in relationship to the rear brake. My question is, if I replace the 48T chainring with a 46T chainring how much extra length of chain will I gain?

I've just got hold of a Fuji Track and the track ends are out of alignment. What's the best way to align these as they are more robust than geared road bike dropouts, does the dropout alignment tool like the one made by Park Tools for example work just as well on track fork ends?

First time using a half link chain and I've come to the conclusion they're just a hassle not worth bothering with. It will go in the bin in the not too distant future!

Thanks, I was forgetting the threaded plate on Izumi chains. I guess the only convenient solution then for a half link chain is a standard master link?

Thanks wildwest, I agree tensioners don't look great, but function over form is my primary consideration..

I've got a vintage steel frameset lying around unused and considering building it up into a single speed,(not fixed). It's got vertical drop outs so I will need to use a chain tensioner, I can't be bothered to fiddle around with half link chains etc to try and do it without!

My question is how do single speeds with a chain tensioner ride? I'm used to riding fixies and freewheel single speeds, by the way. Are single speeds with chain tensioners that much noisier or less efficient than conventional single speeds and which is the best type of tensioner, upward pressure on the chain for more chain wrap on the cog or downward pressure?
