Almost a pair of Shamals for sale. They're clinchers, 16-spoke, but with a broken back hub.
They're in pretty good condition except for the hub but with a few smallish scratches (I've shown the two significant ones in photos). No dents. I haven't cleaned them up for the photos - there's superficial road dust on them. They're still nice and shiny!
The freehub body is for 9spd Campag, so I'd been running them with modern 10spd Campag and Ergo levers - it fitted no problem. Not that many around like this.
When the hub broke (just pulling away from lights it pinged. Must have been the awesome torque) I'd planned either to buy a new 9spd Record hub and rebuild, or to buy an 8spd and swap out the axle and the freehub body, so I could continue to use them with modern gruppos.
Now I've decided not to repair the wheels since I'm selling the frame and bits too (in another thread shortly) as I have too many bikes. They were brilliant wheels and ran well. The rear hub you'll see was pitted and grotty (cosmetically), so it's no great loss in that sense. The front one is cosmetically much better, and it runs true and smoothly. The rims have seen good use (and have obviously been braked on), but I think there's plenty of life left. They look cool.
All the spokes on the broken wheel are to my knowledge OK. I have a spare original aero spoke you can have too, though I'm not sure if it is front/rear driveside/offside etc.
One NOS 9-10-11spd hub popped up just here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread98128.html. Although I have seen used ones on eBay for around £40. I'm not 100% the freehub swap would have worked, so you'll have to find that out yourself. It makes sense that it would tho…
So. You have either a restoration project; or a front wheel and a rear rim ready to have a track hub fitted.
I'd like £130. PMs and dibs please. Collection from London E8 preferred.
Please leave any questions below or PM. Cheers!
