Spend my lunch break fitting brakes and shouty new bar tape. Front wheel is a H+Son archetype to miche hub which lived on my old uni commuter. Also covered top and down tube decals with tape for paint protection and stealth. Stickers for forum support and because I had a matte black sticker. Probably going to add clipless pedals for road riding as well.

Previous lockring was cheese. LBS hadn't a clue why it got so stuck. Tightened the new one in place and went to the shops today on the hubs and I'm happy with the ratio I've got. Threads look pretty good to the eye so I'm just going to hope it works if I ever need to change the sprocket.

Usually I've been able to finger tighten the lockring all the way to the cog. This time it gets about halfway before needing the tool to get it any tighter. The threads look uniform aside from some scuffs around the top from trying to get the previous lockring off

I've got a front wheel with a brake track I can take off an older bike so apart from a mismatched wheelset there's no drama. Might be a good opportunity to learn how to wheelbuild a nice new front wheel. Was thinking H+Son Archetype in black to match the frame. Any recommendations on decent front hubs?

One bike sized cardboard box. Leftover from bike delivery. Thought somebody might want it for storage or shipping. Fitted a 54cm Dolan Pre Cursa and wheels comfortably. Has assorted cardboard inserts for front wheel and seatpost.

LBS (Recycle-a-bike Uxbridge) managed to destructively get the lockring off. Have ordered a Campagnolo replacement. I've noticed when trying to hand tighten the new lockring I get about halfway through the threads on the hub and then it becomes really hard to tighten more. Is there something wrong or should I just use a lockring tool to crank it tight? Don't want to mess the hub up.

Took the pre cursa out for a quick spin without brakes last night. Very nice to ride even slowly. Brakeless riding might be okay for quick shop trips but I think I definitely need to sort the front brakes out so that is top of the list for the weekend. Might also be looking for a second cockpit for brakeless duties to save hassle.

I've got a H+Son Archetype for front brake duty on rides where I think I'll need one. Was just wondering if taking the decals off would mean I could just leave the brakes on for worst case situations or is that just idiotic and I should find a long term front wheel?

So after 6 weeks, a house move, and many emails to Dolan the Pre Cursa finally arrived. At the wrong address. Jumped in the car to go and collect from outside my University digs (and collect some other bikes). Managed to fit everything in the boot and drive back without being clonked round the head by a rogue fork. It's been pissing with rain so haven't had a chance to ride the Dolan yet.

In terms of upgrades from stock I've fitted my SRAM Omnium cranks with some DMR V6 pedals with Restrap horizontal straps. Need to find time to fit some emergency brake levers (mostly so I can ride on the hoods).

I'm a big fan of the Miche decals on the wheels but they might have to go in the name of stealth and actually being able to stop if somebody pulls out in front of me.

Dropped the wheel off at my LBS today. Sadly don't have access to a drill and don't really want to be responsible if anything goes wrong. Found a Campag lockring on Condor's website for not stupid money so that's on the way. Was the cheapest Italian threaded lockring I could find that wasn't just the same one that's caused the whole incident.

So drill from the top then hammer?

Tried a locking wrench and the f*cker is too shallow to get a good grip. All the teeth on the lock ring are totally fubar. I've got a couple of punches I might have a proper go with tomorrow when I don't need to worry about waking the neightbourhood with swearing. Destructive methods of removal are definitely acceptable now

I've got a Mango wheelset floating around, fixed free rear hub. Still in pretty decent condition.

I've fucked all the slots at one point or another so they're all rounded off. Might try the screwdriver but not looking promising

I've managed to mangle a miche lockring when trying to remove it from my hub. My tool slipped and mashed the slot on the lockring. Any tips for removing the lockring or is it a job for my LBS?

A mate of mine had some spare pedals he's given me so thanks for everyone who replied

I'd take £50 for the set. The rear is slightly gritty compared to the front but still spins nicely. I'll measure the hub width tomorrow but I think they're the standard fixed gear 100/120.

£10 for the pedals and cleats?
