Hey, just posted my own Koga build here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread83755.html, if you're looking for inspiration :)
Just had a look. Really like it. The frame appears to be in amazing condition!

I ride a Koga Miyata conversion currently, picked up the frame far cheaper than I could have got a track frame.
My thinking was build best bike I could on my budget at the time did everything myself and did it properly utfs etc.
My intension is to refurb the frame with new paint and decals and turn over to geared next year (money is tight as I am paying for my wedding in October) swap the parts on it currently to a different frame. (the advantage being I will end up with two bikes and my other half won't know how I managed it)
At the end of the day you own the bike do what you want with it (apart from covering it in stickers, putting a spok on it or hacking anything off it!)
Hey mate do you have any details of your conversion? I'm also in the process of building (violating) up a k-m road frame into fg /track style! I love the frame and like mentioned its a hella cheaper option than a real track frame build.

Im definately feeling the black/chrome scheme. looking at building up a set of either of these rims from scratch - they are the lightest weight of v / semi v at a reasonable price point. Will do the rear with a cog bolted to a shimano disc hub, and a lightweight shimano low flange (road) front hub. Butted black spokes.
Any advice on these rims?
Mach1 omega (22mm, 490g and £15 a pop)
Rigida dp18 (40mm, 590g and £20 each)I estimate I could build a set for between 80-100£ and definitely lighter than the gipiemme pista at 2.5kg. Only downside is that none of those rims come in non-machined walls. Anyone have any experience in 'painting' over the machined bits?

Hi, I was wondering how you are getting on with the dp18 wheel set? How do they compare to the mach1's? I'm also in the middle of a new build and considering either of those. From research the differences are:
Mach1 rim - 490g and 25mm depth
http://www.mailorderbikes.com/m5b591s312p7495/RALEIGH_Mach1_Rim_700C_Omega_32H_White_/RS_GBDp18 rim - 590g with 40mm
http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/RIRIDP18/rigida_dp18_rimThen obviously the whatever weight of the hubs/ spokes/ tyres on top of each wheel.*
What are your thoughts? Cheers*

I've read in a previous thread that the on one set are a good weight / price compromise. Did they not come in non-machined version?
http://www.lfgss.com/thread39040.htmlThe gipiemme a40 pista set weigh a ton - 2.5kg+, is this not really heavy? http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPGIPA40L/gipiemme_pista_a40_wheelset
Compared to the likes of shimano non aero wheels these types of rim make a massive difference in weight. What do you guys do when on the track? Doesn't the rotating weight factor slow you down or is a case of changing wheels depending on the occasion?

Go for chrome/black and put on some road bars with some nice levers, like sram s500 or s900. Just like superjoe's bridgestone, which is lovely.
buy some black Gipiemme's from this guy:
http://www.tontacycles.com/Really nice chap and his wheels aren't expensive.
Cheers and keep us informed with your progress.
Who's superjoe? (sorry I'm new on here :) I like the look of the gipiemme rims. Question: what's the breaking performance like when running non machined in the front? Or for safetys sake is this not recommended? Aesthetically I'm not keen on the machined look.
Cheers for the feedback guys.

^^ this man speaks the truth.
Worst thing you can do with a road frame is put track drops and some pissy little cross lever on it imo. Nice drops that fit you properly with hoods you can actually ride on is the way to go for conversions.Agreed track drops aren't practical for everyday use. To be controversial I'm actually torn between bullhorns or 2" risers instead of road drops. I'll be in traffic most of the time and if i need to get aero i definately prefer the bullhorn positioning..
