Only one thing needs to change, and that is the law. Are we so thick over here that we can't see the advantages of the Dutch, German, Danish et al where nobody on a bike feels in the least danger, everyone is relaxed, no helmets and it's spot the fat person unlike here where it's spot the thin one.
The politicians are for the most part completely ignorant of the transport system in Europe because all they ever see is the inside of a limousine, and if they are aware they are in a minority, too afraid to speak out because it would be a vote loser.
I don't live in London, but I know this, if things are to change, every cyclist in the UK needs to get involved, if they did it would be bloody difficult to ignore. -
I have a few more details as this is my old club. The young lady's name is Orla, she had only been with Cambridge CC since last year. She was indeed out on a club run with I think 8 others, she was at the back and either touched a wheel or hit something in the road, tragically she fell into the path of a car and died instantly. My mate Jan said that the others on the ride were very badly shocked and he thought the club would "take a long time to get over this". Her boyfriend was with her and the air ambulance arrived quickly but nothing could be done. Her parents have flown over from Ireland.
My thoughts are with them and also the club members on that ride. RIP Orla -

Nothing but admiration for you people in the smoke living on your wits on a daily basis. James Whale? Damn, haven't heard that weasily name for donkeys years, hoped he might not be around anymore, I used to hate him for his tabloid confrontational style, what a wazzock [northern term]. Stay safe all of you.

Okay we'll leave it to another day :(
If fielden wants any advice on building a bike there are so many on here that can help!
Surely we can encourage someone to build one for SOOO much cheaper and learn as he/she goes along!I'll say hello again to keep it on topic, a bit confused by JC who thinks I am / need to build a bike / have a Charge??
So you know more about me, I have a customised Pearson fixed which I have done just over 25,000 miles on and have been building / fettling bikes for more years than I care to recall, but thank you for your misguided concern. I obviously don't make myself clear when I post. -
Hello everybody, I've been riding fixed for 4 years, have other bikes but 95% is on fixed. Unusually my better half also rides fixed but never gets to ride with other females who are fixed / ss riders. We live in the smallest county in the country [only one without a MacD's]. Our riding experience is the opposite end of the scale to you guys and girls in London, as an example I never get passed on average by more than 1 vehicle per mile. I would like to experience riding in London and would be up for leading a ride where we live [Utopia for bikes]. Will follow the rides section with interest.

Toured the Netherlands in August and encountered our first Dutch roundabout at rush hour, wow! how easy is that, works like a dream. The reason there wasn't as much traffic was because everyone was on a bike, put in the infrastructure, tweak a few traffic laws and attitudes and culture will begin to change.
