Glad you are OK! If you were coming from Blackheath into the main south entrance of the park (Duke Humphrey road), I had a very similar experience a few years ago, in the morning at the same time of year. In my case I narrowly got across the front of a coach coming from the left who just didn't see me - he must have missed my back wheel by inches. Not that it's any excuse, but I think the low morning sun in winter coming across the heath (or even just the brightness when cloudy) is in exactly the place where it blinds drivers coming from that left/west side from seeing people entering the roundabout from the south side ... a totally innocuous looking little mini-roundabout that is in fact potentially very dangerous at this time of year. I recall that adrenaline rush too...

Can you advise what evidence you need in order to take action against dodgy Gumtree sellers?
Is it necessary to have a victim who can identify the bike before action can be taken against the seller? Or is a clearly dodgy ad (or series of ads) enough to proceed with (always assuming that you and your colleagues have the resources to follow it up...)?
Reason for asking - people on this forum often publish details of dodgy adverts seen on Gumtree/eBay in an attempt to trace the original owners, but I'm wondering whether this is counter productive as it may alert the sellers who may then remove the ads and therefore the evidence... maybe it would be better not to publish and just forward the details direct to you guys (or the "task force")?
Good luck with your project btw

http://www.gumtree.com/london/58/67038758.html@Northern Rob - great work and as recent victim of theft feel similarly about such Gumtree sellers.
However, all those above adverts disappeared within hours of your post - I'm guessing the more enlightened "Ashleys" read this thread too and remove the ads if "spotted"...and if so, maybe we are actually making it less likely to get them nicked if we broadcast the dodgy Gumtree finds here before letting the Task Force get involved (as the Task Force will then have less evidence against them, won't they?). But I guess there's also the objective of reuniting bikes and owners to be considered... anyway just thinking out loud here...views?

first post so can only reply...
my stripped-down mountain bike was nicked from opposite south quay dlr friday c.2pm. despite eye-witness and prob cctv police not interested as "too few resources". 2 kids on foot and one (the "cutter") on bike apparently, so likely Isle of Dogs locals.
Bike all silver/black, with no distinguishing features - it is label free.
- 21" frame, rigid fork, bars and bar ends - all bare silver aluminium.
- Black XT/x221 wheels, black procraft seatpost, black/grey arrow saddle, black deore cranks, black/silver wellgo pedals.
@trich926 - I was at Brick lane from c8:45-11 today and saw very few bikes worth more than 50 quid and only one obviously dodgy non-stall bike seller. maybe they have moved on somewhere else. ideas anyone?

In case anyone recognises any of these:
