I think the main problem is that they aren't machined very well inside, so they don't sit on the spindle as well as they should. I had that problem too, I've also found that the bolt works itself loose very easily and regularly (not sure if this is the cranksets fault or not, but never had the same problem with other cranks). Also from when I first fitted them I noticed that the crank arms aren't level when I look at it from the side.

Does anyone know what the stock handlebars on the steamroller are? I've looked at the surly website but it doesn't give much away. Failing that can anyone recommend any bars that are a similar shape (Ideally with a 25.4 clamp area)?
I built up a steamroller from the frameset about 6 months ago and have used flat bars since, I want to try some drops but only having a background in BMX I don't have a bloody clue where to start, but oddly enough I like the look of the steamroller stock ones. -

Has anyone seen any thing like this;
No idea how it would work as a fixed bike though...

I love the bloody poo colour! I've had my eye on a steamroller for the last 6 months or so, I just keep getting tempted by the scissor/cutter/sword because they look like an oversized bmx, which is what I've always ridden! There's so much love for the steamroller on here that I'm pretty much convinced it would be the more sensible option. I just want something simple and strong that I can hack around on!

I'm an aging bmxer who has decided to build up my first fixed/single speed bike firstly for transport and also to get some much needed exercise. I've been lurking on the forums for a while and this thread has pretty much made my mind up to get a steamroller.
I was after a quick bit of advice though, does anyone know whether there would be a fork/stem combination that would give the steamroller enough clearance for barspins? I want my bike primarily for actually riding rather than doing tricks but if my bmx background gets the better of me I may not be able to resist. Also I love the look of the charge scissor/fbm sword etc but would this kind of trick frame be practical enough for riding distances on for a prolonged period?
