Bit offtopic (no-one 'appreciates' sensible cars) but any recommendations for a small car would be handy. Something reliable, pref two/three door, hatchback, diesel, under £2000, decent in the city, under 80k, that sort of thing. Been looking at Golfs and Focuses but they're surprisingly expensive imo. Any recommendations appreciated.

I've driven one for the last 9 years -never let me down! I've got a new car now but I'll never sell the Pug.

Happy days, I've found a fireplace discussion.. my other 1/2's sick of my fireplace chat.
I've been doing research into stoves, flues etc as I'm sorting out mine at the moment. It was an empty fireplace when I bought a year ago, with a mingey little plaster surround. Originally I wanted a defra log stove but my chimney's four storeys up (I'm just grnd flr) so getting a flue installed would require scaffold an $$. Tomorrow I'm having the chimney swept and inspected (inc the flats above) so finger crossed I pass and I can get an open gas basket with a big cast fireback. If I fail it'll be a Dimplex Optimyst :(
Things could have been straight forward if I hadn't bought a huge smashed up marble fireplace on gumtree and started reassembling it. Enlarging the builders opening was fun but getting the stains out of the marble has been a pain in the arse.I actually paid for this:

And this is where I've got to:

cheers man.
was thinking of bees waxing / conditioning them, but not too sure, I might lose it as they will go darker.......
any recomendations? don't want to use tallowI had to soften my ammo pouch. I used a clear off the shelf leather conditioner and rubbed it in by hand. The oils from you hand and the warmth help feed the leather. I also rubbed in some gum tragacanth to the edges to burnish them.

- I've had mine now for 6 months and its working fine. loses an minute a day but thats standard for a manual. The domed glass is the only weakness, I swapped mine for perspex. All the parts are upgradeable and because its not worth 5 grand I took a file to the case and shaped it more like the vintage Panerai. Theres lots of crap out there so only buy from the same guy as me. I had reservations about wearing a fake watch but over 6 months no one has even noticed it, people don't care whats on your wrist.

Similar to these instructions i found.. : [SIZE=1][SIZE=1][SIZE=1][SIZE=1][SIZE=1][SIZE=1][SIZE=1][FONT=Verdana][SIZE=2]Lie on your back and look up behind the bumper. You can just see the cable slightly off centre to the right. Get a finger around it and pull down. Hey presto, bonnet open.I'll just have to try it again

The battery has run flat on my 306 hdi. Thing is I had it delocked a few years back :(
I have wires attached to the battery and hidden under the grill for when this happens but it seems to have lost connection. I've read its possible to go in under the grill and pop the bonnet latch but can't find enough info on how to actually do this.
Can anyone help me? (might be better to pm rather than post here)
Thanks -
