i am so desperately sad after reading this thread, it's utterly heart-breaking.
but the warmth and love in all the messages is amazing.since joining in the tweed run, signing up and meeting some of the people here i have had my faith in people restored because there is a very deep sense of fellowship and trust and respect.
giles, i am so sorry for what has happened and the pain you are feeling. please be strong and feel the love that everyone is sending to you.

Good people in Tweed,
Many of you fine and splendid folk would have seen my friend Steve having a little sit down on the Hackney Road after a spill. May I take this opportunity to update you on his progress.
Bearing in mind that he finished the run and then cycled home, Steve suffered deep bruising to his shoulder and left knee and broke the base of his femur!!
After this sterling effort he is now resting by a roaring fire, re-reading Jerome K Jerome and learning to play the banjo.
Thank you all again for your help and concern and special thanks to Andrew, the two fellows who righted his Bob Jackson and to the delightful lady who gave him her water.that was me! nice to be described thus! happy to help, poor fella, he took a nasty tumble. really hope he's much better soon x miss kitty

For sale - a lovely 1950's French Vintage Motobecane single speed ladies mixte step-through bicycle in a delightful duck-egg blue.
Having a few problems posting pictures here, so please see the listing I have posted on Gumtree here:
http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/lovely-1950s-vintage-ladies-motobecane-mixte-single-speed-bicycle-duck-egg-blue/1073433745
This is a really nice period bicycle that has mostly original features, including the original cotterpin cranks and viking chainring, chain-guard, original steel wheels and mudguards and centre-pull front brake, plus side-pull rear brake. It's a very comfortable ride and I am only selling it as I am moving and can sadly only store one bike instead of two now.
The bicycle has its original period leather women's saddle (I think it's nicer than a Brook's) with both embossed Motobecane and brass Sportex logos still visible. And it even has the original rear rack in matching paintwork, so a basket or panniers can easily be fitted.
It has NEW Schwalbe Delta tyres that have not been used very much.
Obviously the bicycle has a lot of appropriate age-related rust-spots that do not really detract from the overall look - it is about 60 years old! The rear light is broken but can be replaced, and the bicycle comes with a nice bell with a lion motif thrown in.
I'm in the Shoreditch/Hoxton/Old Street area if you would like to view the bicycle any time. £200 or nearest offer.
Cheers! Kitty
