It occurs to me that the strength of the LFGSS site is undermined by gossip, I am surprised by the the small things that are said about me and what I do, my request to the self righteous is to get out on your bikes on a sunny day and smell the roses, this is a big world and being small is not a contribution to it, be big, there is room enough for all of us, regards, Graham.

Whatever track pump you get, throw away those useless lever fittings and get a round brass push on one as fitted to Silcas, they do not strain the valve and push on and pull off perfectly everytime in .03 of a second, less is more.

Did you look at the chainring bolts, if they are not tight or some have dropped out it will creak.

If you have to cut and are left with 1/2 the stem up the steerer tube, get a metal bar slightly smaller than the dia. of the steerer tube, stick it up between the forks and hit it hard with a lump hammer, believe me, it won't resist, keep the drift so your mates can use it.

Take the allen bolt into a decent hardware place and get a good quality high speed drill of the right size, you can put the drill end to end with the bolt and compare the diameters. An decent battery drill will do the job, square it up properly or get a friend to eye it up, pull the trigger and go, when it starts to come through, chances are it will stick, reverse it out and go again with less pressure, stop as soon as it goes through, keep the drill in a safe place for forks only, sharp. Forks look so much better with allen bolts.

GB is a good one to look for if you want retro, they were made in the 60's 70's, outnumbered by the plain alloy version by 50 to 1.
