Not meaning to derail the sale, but it's worth mentioning for a potential buyer that these have oddball seatpost (24.0), and headset / fork thread sizes.
The options are to either source an original headset from Germany (there are still some of these around), or use a different headset / fork combination altogether with a bunch of soda can shims between the headset and headtube wall.
Swapping the fork without using a shim is also possible by marrying the lower Renak (Diamant) headset cups to upper cups of some other makes, and these 'hybrid' headsets are also still available online if you want to avoid the hassle.
These framesets go for well under 100€ (with matching headsets) on the local classfields here in Germany.
These are from the GDR, not really Soviet (though these have the same issues), and are made out of gas pipe, which makes them plenty stiff and pretty much indestructible. -

Hey @scarlet, have you had the chance to use the jig already? What profile did you end up with?
I'm in two minds about sourcing the materials by myself and machining the parts at the local artsy space, or skipping this step altogether and getting the complete jig to begin with, learning basic machining later on if the whole framebuilding thing takes off.
When it comes to buying a jig, price is too steep most of the times for me, but 100€ is really hard to beat in that regard, but also a little suspicious :/
I read through the instructable a couple of times and didn't notice anything fundamentally wrong, but I've no clue.
Do you have any feedback regarding that one? I'm looking for something to get a feel for it really, moving on to a more legit jig if I find this one limiting after having brazed a few frames.
Any input would be helpful, cheers! -

Hi everyone,
Please correct me if starting a new thread for this is not the best idea.
I didn't find a more appropriate one, however. There is a vintage Reynolds 531 frame with a tad too tight seat tube and a seat lug anomaly that is pictured below.
It takes 26.8 post, which is resistant (but possible to convince with a bit of effort) to slide up and down freely.
I'm planning to address it with a flex hone and the electric screwdriver (although the seat tube is clean inside).
It also exhibits, however, a gap between the pointy seat lug bit and the seatpost (even fully inserted and tightened).
I was trying to bend it back into shape with the help of the adjustable spanner, but with little to no success.
I'd prefer to fix it myself if possible, but also wouldn't mind paying a framebuilder a visit if it's not.
Is this issue uncommon at all? Maybe I'm being too dramatic and shouldn't bother. I wonder if the frame was built this way or if something has happened to it though.
The bike is intended as an everyday commute, however, and I'm a bit concerned about rainwater getting into the tube through the gap or muck accumulating in the area.Any help / advice is greatly appreciated,
Cheers! -
Amazing, thanks for the info @jppegs!
Now knowing the name of the builder more search results show up.
Good luck with the sale! -
That's beautiful, wish I had that money.
My partner owns one of these frames.
It came with 600 arabesque groupset and is made out of tange prestige tubing.
A little less posh, with a simple colour-way.
Never saw another one of these before this thread.
I was trying to find any information about the builder but the only thing I figured was that it was a small workshop in Amsterdam back in the day.
Do you happen to know more by any chance, or have anything to read?
The one we have rides like a dream btw, very lively and lightweight.
Potential buyers - don't hesitate. -

[Found something]
Hi, I'm looking for a budget frame set, preferably old steel, for a smaller rider, with track dropouts.
Ideally not bigger then 50st*52tt (ctc), for 700c wheels. Would be really nice if it was drilled for the front brake.
I'm in Germany, so would ask to post it if something comes up.
Cheers! -

The seller is saying they can't provide any information on the bike.
Looks like a resprayed Columbus max frameset, as there's a weird website URL on the seatstays and I've never seen a steel track Look with a curved fork and a colourway / decals like that.
The hubs and nuts resemble the older campagnolo record and it has a combination of gipiemmme / campagnolo crank arms.
I was intrigued and tried to find out anything about the frame / company, but the search on the mentioned URL didn't bring any convincing results.
Thought someone here may be interested, speculations on the history of the specimen are welcome.
Do you think it's worth it? -

Hi all,
I broke my chain the other day, as a consequence of it being too loose and trying to come off while riding fixed.
After breaking in two one end of the chain wrapped around the rear axle, leaving the drive side dust cap dented and "out of true".
I have a feeling that sound dust caps are more important in the rear, so less winter gunk from the road and chain gets in the bearings, so I replaced the impacted one with the one from the front.
However, I'd really want to exchange the damaged one at some point - manipulations with a set of pliers didn't quite bring it back to normal and there are still some imperfections that keep the hub from spinning as smooth as it was intended.Does anyone have ideas of where to source these things?
A brief search showed that threads like this emerge every once in a while, does it mean that the only chance is to salvage it from an old hub of the same model / make or a similar design? Would using some hub hardware kit be an option?
In the worst case scenario, will I die if I just ditch the dust caps altogether and run the hub formula / novatec-style? (see the pic)One more question: there's not a lot of life left in one of the cones, as it seems that they are softer then the cone spanners. Are they mostly universal or will I also have to be looking for one in case I eventually strip the surfaces where the spanner is applied?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated,
Thank you! -
Hey everyone,
Long shot, but does anyone have a sturdy classic-looking 10 speed (Shimano) compatible touring non-disc wheelset they are willing to part with?
Would need to be posted to the EU.
Give me a shout, thank you!
