Be aware that there are two different diameters used for canti mounts. Most (and modern ones) are 6 mm diameter. My 1982 frame has 7 mm diameter canti mounts. These have been difficult to find brakes for. Also important is the width. To this end, you need the brake arms to have fully-adjustable eyebolt things. I have ordered some old Suntour CX brakes which I hope will fit on the 7mm mounts.

The tubeset sticker looks almost identical (if I recall) to Vitus 888, which was a plain guage tubing (each tube being 0.8mm thick). Is this Durafort the same thing, perhaps? I have fond memories of my first (entry-level) bike, a Motobecane, which propelled me to 2nd place in the local GHS, and a 23 minute '10' at 15 y.o.

Thanks for that very helpful information. Definitely canti bosses on my frame - I have the build specs, and the bosses are most definitely below the rims. I did try Paul cantis but it turns out they are designed to work with wider fork blades, so they didn't give good sensitivity. But really helpful comments. Thanks.

It certainly has the hallmarks of a frame that could be a 653 Pug - shot-in stays, pump pip, vertical drop-outs. Also, the rear stays have the classic broadened mid-section. And if frame and forks came in at around 2700g or less that would be another clue. Nowt wrong wi' it by the look.
