Jos:People ! Do I have to remind you that there is a live broadcast of the Tour of Flanders starting at 12pm tomorrow. Not to be missed, maybe you should look for a pub where you can catch the finish.
Finally watched this, only a day late but hey that's what Sky+ is for.
Turned out to be one hell of a race.
Looking forward to watching the Paris-Roubaix next weekend :) Are there any pubs that just put Eurosport on, or is it all just football? It's nicer to watch cycling from a beer garden.

TfL has a load of ex-messengers and other cyclists currently performing surveys of all advertised cycle paths in London. The idea is to start by producing a conclusive map of London cycling facilities (rather than each council producing their own, or not as the case may be). After that, it's to produce a coherent and joined-up policy on cycle facilities across all London boroughs, to be directed and controlled by TfL and the London Mayor.
What we have at the moment is every council producing their own facilities in their own way. And as fixedwheelnut said at the pub, this means that Greenwich is wonderful and you go a little east and suddenly all the cycle lanes just stop.
I despise a lot of cycle lanes as they are nothing more than a painted gutter, but I do enjoy bus lanes. Cycling in London would certainly be a little tougher were we not able to take a whole (bus) lane without anyone being able to give us flak. There's a lot of places where bus lanes give you access to different routes as well, as sometimes the roads go one-way with the exception of a bus lane.
So bus lanes are cool, cycle lanes are just crap though.

We thought we must've been late to be honest, figured you must've left way before us. We did get photographed by a Japanese student, but we didn't think that was the thing and just waited around half an hour or so.
Let us know where and when, and if we can make it I'm sure some of us will.
I'm out on Wednesday evening, but the rest of the evenings are fine for me.

Get a blow torch, heat up the solder that's holding them on, watch them drop off.
Clean frame, file down, send frame for repaint.
I have some bottle holder nuts on my track frame. I asked for them. It's still a track frame, but I run a headlight during winter (seriously, a headlight and not LED flicker thingy) and that requires a substantial battery. The battery is the shape of a water bottle :)

I'm thinking the same.
I've got to be in The Chandos for around 5pm, but that leaves a few hours to ride up town, relax, and look around before going to the pub :)

Anyone up for it then?
The original discussion was on the 1% thread:
http://www.londonfgss.com/discussion/18/#Item_16Bored today, so probably going to go up to The Chandos to meet some mates and drink the evening away. But tomorrow, no plans, so would be good to get some riding in. The Old Mill seems like as good a destination as any, is anyone going to be down there?

You did the right thing, almost.
Should've folded his wing mirrors in, mounted the pavement so he couldn't run you down, and then make off whilst attempting to moon him.
The wing mirror thing is great for buses if they are really being idiots. I've only ever done it once, but if you do the passenger side it takes them ages to correct it.
Usually though, my relationship to both cabbies and bus drivers is pretty good. I make sure they see my intent and that I understand theirs... no problem then. Of course, that doesn't account for the crazy ones like in your story, but they're not all bad apples.

That's my opinion too.
What's that thing that new commuters and cyclists are told, 10% of the value of the bike should be spent on locks?
It's a hazy number if you've picked up a vintage bargain, but the idea of setting aside up to £200 for a serious set of locks that can take care of the major components is seriously worth thinking about.
Thankfully London isn't as bad as NYC. The fuckers over there steal seat posts, saddles, brakes, pedals. There's not much you can do when they start taking components. But when it comes to wheels it should be a no-brainer.

Another failed racer here :) London Dynamo, I was crap but very enthusiastic. I got into single-speed and fixed through training and wanting to reduce maintenance and cleaning over winter... not for the cool (hell I had more cool before I put lycra on).
I just think cycling is a blast, I love it and I'm happy when I see other people enjoying it. I've had my 15 minutes of fame 10 years ago and it ain't coming back. I'm not bothered about appearing in a magazine or being associated with a scene, I'm too old to think that's what matters, but if it helps someone else (dexter in this case) then sure bring it on. I rode in circles in the background of an ITV thing a week ago, on a geared bike wearing a yellow TdF shirt, I don't think this stuff matters, but little things to promote cycling in any form I'm for, we get too much bad press to pass up the opportunities for good press.
And hell, if it means a few new faces down a pub in a year's time and on a ride or two. Then that's gotta be worth it.
