I like it when you get old guys commuting on Bromptons roll up, and ask whether you go to Herne Hill, and how they used to ride fixed back in the day.
They're usually really surprised when I explain the frame is relatively new (last year), that yes England still has some small framebuild shops making track bikes.
That stuff makes the crap worth it.

A white van driver called me a c*** recently, he was going the other direction on a dual-carriageway and I was nowhere near him (central reservation and a lane between us). He actually went to the roundabout, came back, slowed next to me and called me a c*** again.
I just smiled and left him behind at the traffic lights.
But yeah, I get stick. Not usually from other cyclists though.

Drupal is far too heavy.
What we're running on is called Vanilla, it's lightweight and easy to use. The problem is that it's, well... vanilla. You don't get much with it and have to add stuff through extensions. Even basic functionality needs to be added. A lot of this is community developed and therein lies a problem, no QA ;) So you end up hacking and developing your own plugins.
It's not that bad really, just strange OO PHP to get your head around. But once I'm up to speed with it I'm sure it'll be fine.

Shit! The glass on Piccadilly this morning is everywhere, just opposite Waterstones (used to be Simpsons) near Piccadilly Circus.
I was flat before I got to the circus, and pulled a 1cm shard out of the rear tyre. It had made a hole large enough that I could see through it, and both the tire and tube are screwed.
Tubes I carry, but not tyres. I don't puncture often enough to justify it, but damn I hate when I lose my tyre too.
How often is street cleaning supposed to happen? There's some places on my morning ride that seem to have debris for weeks at a time. I swear they're supposed to be cleaned at least weekly or something, it's not as if they're minor roads.
I hate road debris. All my flats come from it. Glass, screws, random bits of odd-shaped metal.
Carried my bike the last half mile, didn't want to ruin the rims now that there was zero pressure in the rear. I must've looked comical.

Buffalo Bill:I guess getting a discount for posting on a cycling forum could be nice...
I prefer to put some spin on that ;)"A load of cyclists have got together and realised that their combined spending power is considerable. We are all multi-bike households and cycling being our core passion means that a large chunk of our disposable income is spent on what we love. Taking into account these things, we think that we should be rewarded for our patronage of a select number of London cycle shops, and would request a discount on par with the one offered to LCC members. In the future, we may also wish to use the select cycle shops to facilitate group buys and would like further discount considered for bulk purchases of such a nature.".
Some bollocks like that ;)

Yeah. That should be possible too.
I think it's supposed to do that, but doesn't. It's very weird software.
I'm also unsure about all the yellow on the front page... might make read discussions have a white background and only unread go yellow.
I'll look at this stuff this evening (unless someone suggests a pub).

I thought his ride was wondrous. Thanks for posting the write-up.
I took a look at his personal website after the race to get a better idea of his results over the past couple of years, unfortunately the site really doesn't do him justice and looks like a relative might have knocked it out. The team site is much better, thankfully.

rkn:
velocity boy:2) The icon/avatars are not re-sized to 32x32 rather than cropped, so if the avatar you choose is slightly too large it now looks alright.
Aww I liked the randomness of how it was before :( making my avatar look like a turd :(Jos's was invisible though... centred on the large bit of whitespace in the middle. Made the layout look weird.

This forum software is weird to say the least, but being a programmer I think I should be able to work most kinks out of the system.
I've fixed a couple of things this morning:
1) The "Who's Online" thing in the left-hand panel now sorts by username and not userId.
2) The icon/avatars are not re-sized to 32x32 rather than cropped, so if the avatar you choose is slightly too large it now looks alright. If there are other kinks that you find kinda odd and want smoothing out (in relation to the forum software, I don't want to know what you get up to in private) then let me know and I'll see what can be done about it.

Sure, nominate the threads you want in here, but I'll limit them to 5 stickies to prevent them from going out of control.
So if we get to 5 stickies and another thread looks like it should be stickied, I'll unsticky one of the existing ones.
"what bikes do you ride" and "Let's Trade" are both stickied :)
LCC News, they're going to have an elevated viewing area for the TdF prologue.
It'll be situated next to Hyde Park at Achilles Way.
I've signed up as a group, so can get 10 riders into this viewing area. All we have to do is join a group ride to the spot beforehand.
Now yes, you don't have to do this to view the prologue, and there will be lots of other places you can squeeze down the side of fences to get a viewing. But the idea of a decent view, not too crowded, elevated and at a key junction that you can see the racers go in both directions, with refreshments at hand... it's a winner in my eyes.
The 10 spots I've asked for are not just open to londonfgss.com members, bring anyone you want, but they have to ride there so clearly we're talking cyclists only.
The full details are on the LCC site.
If we decide not to use the LCC area, then cool I'll let go of the places by letting them know. But if we are using them, just whisper me how many people you can definitely bring... I'll probably take 3 spots, so that leaves 7 from the outset.
