I planted raspberry canes a couple of months ago (along with other soft fruit) - everything else is starting to wake up (buds, leaves emerging) but the raspberries are still just sticks.
When will they start to grow? Will they start to grow from the ground (new stems), or out of the existing stems? And why can't I find the answer to these questions anywhere on the net?
Eta - Don't think they're dead, as when I scrape the stem it's nice and green underneath.

All my seedling have either failed to come up, or come up and then died spectacularly. That answers the question of whether seeds will germinate in erratic temperatures with almost no light. I'm up north and we've been oscillating from -3 to +7C from one day to the next.
I guess it was too early to start trying. Will wait until at least end of Feb for the next lot.

If I had this door I'd sit in the hallway admiring it all day.
The glass does need repairing, and like you say, it's worth getting someone in who'll do a proper job to do that. So get the glass repaired (and cleaned, if you feel like you can't do that yourself - but could you not cut some supportive material to size, and brace one side while cleaning the other?), get the door draft proofed and put the rest off indefinitely.

I feel like I achieve all these things using just a normal pressure cooker and knowing how long rice takes to cook.
My dad goes one step further and uses a diy pressure cooker (by stacking 1-2 pans filled with water atop the cooking pan).
I'm so curious as to whether the fancy cooker could possibly be better in some way, but don't think I'll ever know.

Hm. Seems implausible that they can grow fast enough to bear fruit before the year is out.
Also I hoped they would grow to cover an ugly wall. I see now that may not come to pass.
