Made the mistake of going to RP this morning!
Am I mistaken or does the Highway Code not apply for cyclists in the park?
Did a pleasant lap with no dramas, then decided to stop for a break then go back home clockwise. Nearly got knocked off by some ct overtaking someone who was already overtaking a car between Roehampton and Robin Hood.Much shaking of heads.
Then nearly got knocked over by another ct speeding down the hill who doesn't believe he should give way to someone already on the roundabout!
Suggest that midday on a Sunday isn't the best time to try for a personal best.
Is there some correlation between amount of money spent on bikes, kit and c**ty riding ?
I'm not saying I don't take the piss with the speed limit but there's a time and place for it. -

Today I decided to spend a couple of hours messing around with my old 1948 BSA Streamlight. The original wheels and saddle were completely shot so I replaced them with a Brooks and the wheels from my Rudge which is far to large for me.The rear hub is a new SA Two speed kick shift coaster, the rims are old Rigida Westwoods. The bars are new,the stem from a cycle jumble. The frame has just been 'cleaned' with an oily cloth.
The question is do I leave it rat look or have the frame shot blasted and powder coated a loud colour add a matching enclosed chain case and build the hub into new black rims? -

Would love to break away from it but getting to the point where my pension will be really good if I stay.
When I hit 40 I decided to get some other qualifications, so I did some electrical stuff, city and guilds, nvq's, etc.Made me feel I had something else to fall back on. I have some coaching/assessing nvq's from my current job that are valid for anything you are qualified in.
I've been offered jobs that make me realise how lucky I am to have my current job.
But I still felt something was missing. So now I try to take advantage of my free time as best I can instead of dreaming I try and do.
I've built up a couple of vintage bikes, become a beer snob, improved my musical ability. It all helps !
Last year I decided to build a micro-brewery in my shed.
Six months later and a few brews on, the feedback I've had is amazing.
It's a great buzz.
Now I'm thinking of reducing my hours and devoting more time to it.
Maybe go and be a doctor in a developing country for a while? -
Near Earls Court. Not sure it counts because the saddle is new.
