Learning as I go along when it comes to maintenance. My beater wheel hubs need overhauling and the crappy weldtite bearings I put in the GF's BB feel rough when spinning the axle by hand. Been doing some research and now realise I need a much better grade of bearing than the weldtite grade 1000. Good thing I haven't finished building the bike so it hasn't been ridden like that!

Long story short internet consensus is simplybearings is the place to go. I can't find much info though on which material I should go for, 52100 hardened chrome steel or 440 hardened stainless steel. The stainless steel is marginally softer, which would mean it would wear sooner, but potentially wear on cups/cones would be less. But I may have that all wrong. Then the second question is the grade. They only do grade 100 or 10. Is it worth biting the bullet and going for g10? Or do I look for other sellers who do g25? (Can only find US sellers for that)

needing a standard everyday road use type wheel set for the girlfriend's run around build. Nothing fancy wanted or required, no Phil wood hubs or deep v rims without braking surfaces. Standard shallow silver/black clincher rims with braking surfaces on standard 120 spaced fixed hub, true and ready to roll. Wheel set great but would settle for rear only.

Anyone got anything lying around they would part with? Thanks

I use NW sonic (ones with top ratchet type strap) no problem with version one and now version two speedplay cleats. pretty sure the cleats come with any of the shims/attachments you need

thanks for the input guys. yes i already have speedplays on another bike and these would be great on my new single speed project im slowly building up, so i wouldnt need new shoes or cleats. I'll offer him 15 and a few light ales at the pub and see what he says!

close friend of mine is upgrading his cro moly speedplays to new stainless ones. i asked if he'd sell on the old pair and he asked me to make him an offer, but i have no idea what a fair price would be. cro moly speedplay zeros with red pedal body, been on the bike about a year and a half, probably ridden about 5000 miles, regularly greased, well looked after, no crashes. so, are they worth buying and if so what would be a fair price to offer him? thanks for any advice
