I keep it in the breast pocket of my fleece (ie next to my base layer). I’m moving to Canada this year and want something I can rely on!
Maybe it’s just that the battery is on its way out - could probably do with an upgrade. @Greenbank I’m not sure how to check the battery health?
Edit: found battery health, but it says it’s ‘unable to determine battery health’... -
Does anyone have any tips for stopping an iPhone dying in cold weather? It seems that each time I take my phone out when I'm outdoors at the moment, the battery drains in an instant and it switches off (was using running in -4c on Dartmoor the other day and needed it for navigation so was pretty annoyed when it switched off!).
This always happens when I'm skiing so I've got a hefty battery pack with me in case of emergencies, but I'd prefer something a bit lighter. I always wear it close to my body, but the second I take it out and try to use it, it dies... Are any of the newer iPhone models less likely to drain in cold weather? Or is there some sort of thermal case I can get?
Thanks

I've got two train tickets from London to Nottingham for this Friday at 1pm. You'll need a railcard of some sort, and they are e-tickets so can send them via email.
Free if you need them (but donation to http://tracysstreetkitchen.co.uk/ would be nice).

I'd definitely be up for this, but what kind of pace do you run at? Have been meaning to get out to Epping one day mid week when it's less busy. Bored of the marshes now!
Re headtorches, I've got an alpkit one that has served me well and was v affordable. The red light function is great for (map) reading at night. Also got a Petzl Myo which I'd recommend, but they're quite spenny...

@doubleodavey Yup, that's it.. Well, now I know and will stick to dd the footpath from now on! Any other spots I should avoid?!

Will do! That would be great. I've done a few long runs from a tube station in Epping, through the forest and then back down the canal to Hackney, but some more loop routes would be good - the final slog down the Lea is always a bit meh.
Just had the most awkward run of my life... Decided to try a new route from home, and went up to the Leyton/Wanstead Flats - never been before. It was busy on the main paths, so I turned down a little track and into the woods, and right into a lovely clearing full of solitary men, some with their trousers down... I realised what I'd stumbled upon, and tried to take another path out, only to literally bump into a man doing up his flies as another scurried away into the bushes, and then we both got stuck in the mud and I fell over trying to run out... had to run back through the clearing to find a decent path out again – they must've all been so confused. Guess I'll avoid going off piste in that area in the future...

Recommendations for a 13mile ish trail run within 90 mins drive (or train) from East London? Had a week booked in Snowdonia to climb, walk and run, so now looking for nice running routes we can get to in a day without a load of travel... Was supposed to be our honeymoon, but serves us right for getting hitched in the middle of a pandemic!

I did Race to the Stones 100k in 2019 – it's a lovely undulating route and was a perfect ultra entry point for me (though a big step, as I'd never even run a marathon before that...). I suffered from hip pain throughout the training, and then knee pain about a month before the run, so stopped any long runs in the month leading up to it... before that point, I would run a fast 5k, 2 x comfortable 10k runs, and then a steady 30k run weekly. I probably should've done more, but I felt like those runs were already a squeeze.
I ran one 50k run (the longest of my training) about 6 weeks before RTTS, and kept stretching and rolling throughout, as well as exercises for my hips as suggested by a physio. Probably not the best advertisement for training, but it definitely felt like mind over matter for me!
