It's easy enough to take a junior hacksaw to the bar on the female half and cut a diagonal slot across it (in the way that @danb has described above) and then feed the webbing loop onto this - I've repaired a couple of bags in this way.

The smell when I cut through the cellophane was awesome.
Unfortunately, the festive elves I work with managed to get to them before I had a chance to snaffle one.
Might have to make another trip to Waitrose for a replacement four.... -

It looks like you've attached with (what looks like) knurled fasteners from an Anglepoise lamp - does that not invite scrotes to remove without the use of tools? Or are they for ease of legit removal?
