Cold weather day seemed to have scared off the usual cyclist cnuts on the commute, so had a lovely and peaceful ride in. My new son edelux ii light is amazing at 6am in the countryside!

How long roughly should the shifters on a 6-speed last? Use the bike 3 times a week for a round trip of 30km. I had the bike serviced today and they replaced the left shifter (+ - one) as it had become faulty after nine months. Just wondering if I should bite the bullet and upgrade to a non-Brompton hub gear system if this is going to happen regularly.

Lovely and quiet on the roads through central London early this morning. Somehow I got lit selection spot on and arrived at work a nice temperature for once. Brompton has developed an annoying squeak though, so 8/10 overall.

Lovely commute from this morning balanced by a shocker on the way home. Nearly taken out by a car pulling out in front of me despite apparently looking right at me, then Addison Lee driver did a close pass going around a roundabout such that I was able to hit his side panel three times to let him know I was there, and now the fucking train is fucking delayed. On the plus side I saw Ian Hislop in the station.

Actually had a lovely commute in today in the wet. Rapha rain jacket FTW. Only a small number of cyclists and cars strangely enough. Only complaint was the lack of mudguards on show on the few occasions I found myself behind a cyclist!

In other news I’m on holiday in the Isle of Wight right now and I’ve just realised how capable the standard S6L is. Coped with all of the hills so far, feels good to ride, and is surprisingly stable even on some of the fast descents when approaching the Needles on the coastal road.

Whoever they are, they are a legend.
