Nicked this from the singletrack thread on this subject.
I ride with the Redbridge club which uses the cycling circuit at Hogg Hill and some of the folks from the club recall being at the track last year when the police were testing the bike used in this incident. So it does look like some research has been done on the implications on braking distance and how it relates to this case.
-
So from the witness, shout, look up immediately, impact.
But crash investigators had concluded Alliston would have been able to stop and avoid collision if the bike had been fitted with a front brake.
It'll be interesting to see how the crash investigators have come to their conclusion, I wonder how often they work on bicycle stopping distances.

Are people really snapping square taper BBs regularly from street riding ?
I've ridden 40,000 plus miles in the last 4 years on square taper without issues, and countless years of mountain biking before that, mainly on square taper, no problem. I also used the shimano hollow tech stuff when it first came out, because it looked flash/new it might have been stiff, but not massively so, the bearing life wasn't great compare to square taper.

I've found my 75DD far more hassle than a normal pair of fit and forget 75s.
When I first fitted my 75DD with a torque wrench as per the setting they were coming loss every 20 miles. only when I just got an allen key out tighten them up as far as I could have they stayed tight but I'm still paranoid and feel the need to check a couple of time a ride. Also the standard bearing don't have a great rep, I've got 1200 miles on mine without issue so fair.

Whilst we're all shitting ourselves trying not to say anything about this case, over on singletrack, no such concerns.

I think the Mercedes radio this weekend made it very clear the drivers have equal status. If they wanted their one driver to win the championship they wouldn't have asked Lewis to give up the place to Bottas if he couldn't get passed Kimi.
In the past teams have allowed their drivers to race until the last pit stop and then they are expected to hold station and bring it home, that might be the current agreement at Mercedes.

This season, that venom seems to have been transferred to Vettel/Ferrari.
Given that vettel drove his car into Hamilton in a fit of road rage a bit of venom against him is well deserved.
The situation at mec is somewhat ridiculous on one hand you have a 3 times world champ on a contract that's more than likely double his co drivers but he isn't the number 1 driver. This situation has cost them points over the last few years. but due to a lack of any other rivals it hasn't cost they the driver or constructs titles. It might be different this year.

So perhaps 1.1 second of braking time before impact. This doesn't sound like an exact sciences, I would think any defence solicitor could create some reasonable doubts
