Just jumping in in case this elicits a tribal response - I’m really glad you’re enjoying the coffee, thanks!
I’m a big fan of JGC, I’ve met Peter James once or twice. They’ve been in the speciality coffee business since long before it really took off, they’re probably just not into the light and bright and have always done well with balanced smooth coffees, I think it’s just their thing. It’s my preference too tbh but I do enjoy the juicy ones on occasion and wouldn’t be without them in the range.

Soaking the portafilter and basket, backflushing, scrubbing the bayonet, cleaning the drip tray, cleaning the bodywork, cleaning the knock box, cleaning the counter….. PITA all of it.
It’s already unplugged ready to go on the shelf at the roasting unit. The Technivorm is all set up ready to deliver effort-free stimulant as soon as I stumble bleary eyed down the stairs in the morning, enjoyed in my grey towelling housecoat, a quadragenarian testicle visible from the straight-ahead.

I bought a used Linea mini for portable business things, I’m quite excited about it. I’ve brought it home to see if I can get over my home espresso antipathy during the next couple of weeks. I’ve got dialled in really quickly - the Eureka Libra is brilliant, the coffee and setup is proper pro level but so is the cleaning burden so we’ll see. I’ve got a feeling the Technivorm will be back in its spot after next weekend.

I think when I tried DSD upsampling it sounded rubbish, the others didn’t make much of a noticeable difference. Mine’s set to upsampling bypass (sound mode 3), filter 1 (natural) but I’ve just looked up the manual and it seems you can only bypass the upsampling when using USB, which I don’t anymore. SPDIF all gets up-sampled. I dunno.
My Cambridge Audio MXN10 streamer was hooked up by both toslink and RCA and I could switch between the 2. They did sound a bit different, not better or worse particularly. Now I have to use the RCA input for the phono box so the Project pre-box does DAC duties for streaming and CDs and sounds great. I switch between amps to tune the sound for different moods, that makes a genuinely noticeable difference

This is well nice. I drink bourbon all the time - Buffalo Trace, about 1 bottle a month. Gave this a try on holiday in Southwold and it’s delicious. Not the big caramel body of Bourbon but very smooth and balanced, no smoke, just as I like it.
