If they eventually split and you’re really attached to them you could get the toecaps replaced at the factory. Under £80 sounds unlikely but you might be surprised, worth asking.

If those were mine I’d just put it down to character, they look nicely worn in.

Don’t have the funds for a genuine nice Swiss piece of kit, been looking at reps but it makes me feel a bit weird, came close to ordering a knockoff Tag SpaceX. Anyhow, these two seem to speak to me, both of them because they’re not trying to look like an earnest discount Rolex; the Seiko reminds me of the gauges in my car and the Swatch just looks like a bit of fun with the primary colours.

They’re certainly screwed together much better, extraction-wise there might not be much between them but the heavier weight of the Silvia lends itself to better thermal stability which helps consistency. There are a few users here, some may have owned both. I’ll leave them to chime in.

A used Rancilio Silvia would be an even better idea, not that there’s any on eBay right now, sometimes there’s loads. They’re just really nice quality next to a Gaggia Classic.

Mirador is gone but La Piragua which replaces it is another microlot from the same co-op and just as lovely.
