Found it! They were Tektro R730s. So 47-57mm drop. My measurement was diagonal, so I take it the proper way is to measure vertically. Cheers.

Hmmm cheers. Trying find out what was on the frame originally, it's not a massive drop. Frame's a 2010 Boardman Comp SC and I'll be fitting mudguards.

*sigh. Ed, that's not a normal short reach road caliper. It's designed for cyclocross and clearance for 28c tyres. It is a different shape to a normal road caliper with a visibly longer drop. The question is: how long IS it. If you don't know, that's FINE.

Corny Blackfeet clued me up to old stock Aliums on Amazon of all places. Ordered a pair. SPDs: Got 520s on my beater and got 540s for the slightly less beat beater. Will try the ATACs when they arrive and order more if I like 'em more than the Shimanos. Or not if I don't.

Braks: are these a sensible choice if I need a bit moar reach/drop than standard 105s? I can't find the measurements anywhere but looking at them the reach and adjustable slotty bit looks longer than on most.

Awaiting new pedals for new build before I try them though (am switching to ATACs on the new bike). They look and feel great about the house so part 1 is a pass.

There were some great aspects and overall I found it pretty compelling, but also quite frustrating. There was a fair bit of repetition and whole episodes that felt like filler. The one with the cold-case team in particular was very wooly. I like that it wasn't pre-determined too but I can't gel feel a little deflated at the almost total lack of tangible progress after ten hour long programmes.
