yeah - apologies to anyone else that wanted it. I had not intention of gazzumping or jumping the queue. May have just gone on PMs rather than dibs?
Was it you @mattyc who painted over the yellow bits around the lugs with black? I am thinking of going back to yellow - do you reckon paint remover (and how would this affect the carbon clearcoated areas in the middle) and respray, or just spray right over the black?
I'm tempted to redo the decals as well, since they are looking a bit knackered... -
Just joined the club with a KG231 - will post pics once I have given it a clean, but wondering whether it would be too out of character to go with a shimano 105 groupset like this one from the 90's:

I would have thought Campy would be more common, but I have been finding it difficult to get solid info. I want to do the frame justice but don't have the dorrah to go for a top range group, as I have seen on a few of these that others have built up. I already have the 105 group, minus the cranks, so definitely would prefer that. There may be an ergostem destined for this build if I don't use it on my deathtrap (and since it's the only other Look component I have, besides pedals!) so wondering how that would look with the more standard 105. -
had a slightly half-assed attempt at smoking on my gas grill this past weekend:

I lit one burner and then put some soaked chunks of oak above that side, and then put the beef rib joint on the other side on an airing rack(!) and elevated on top of a cake tin, to ensure it got maximum smoke and minimum heat.
I "cheated" by getting the meat up to temperature in the slow cooker for 2 hours to avoid getting stuck in "the stall" and not actually cooking the meat enough, and then threw it on the grill for about 4 hours.
Results were very tasty, with a lovely bark:

I do wonder whether I should have given it more time to really get those fats and juices melted through - it was chilly and a bit rainy off and on Saturday, so I think that brought the temperature down a bit more than I wanted, but I thought it was a decent first attempt given the limitations!
This is what it looks like cut, so you can see there is still a bit of fat between the chunks of meat (this end was sort of more like a boneless rib cut):

Not going to be able to buy a proper BBQ smoker, so any recommendations on refining the technique with what I've got? -
who just got this?

surely it was someone on here?! -

My wife's bike was stolen from our bike shed in NW10 yesterday - was this Raleigh Royale Mixte in a salmon gold colour which I got as a frame from @boydsbikes a couple years ago, built it up as a SS with fairly distinctive wide gold Mary bars:

Looking to find out more about this tandem, which a friend picked up a year ago off ebay, and wants me to help restore with him:

nice fillet brazing:

Chatter-Lea Cottered Cranks:

Mafac brakes:

Wheels are ISO/ETRTO 590 (the other other 26")
The only lugs are at the tops of the seat tubes (unless you count the fork crown as well), and they are cut out.
Geo is clearly for a shorter stoker, and the wheel base is pretty compact overall
Other components are probably not original (RD is Shimano 600, DT shifter looks to be 60's campag?...)Any guesses what it might be? What components are worth keeping to restore? Obviously a lot of work needs to go into removing rust (all superficial by the looks of it though), but would be good to know how much effort its worth putting into the project...

Just came across this lug lining pen for relatively cheap (aside from postage)... Says location is Germany but price is listed in $AUD

Not sure whether it's legit, but worth a punt if you are still keen

This seems like a decent deal for a 281, especially with a cheeky lowball best offer below the £145 BIN, but I'm still in the benchmarking stage of trying to figure out what LOOK might be right for me ;) any thoughts from the lookerati?

I have one of the original, even spaced 8-speed cassettes, and a fairly worn exa-drive which skips on a couple sprockets (but you can have that for free).
difference in spline pattern is here:

Miche also does some that are compatible with exadrive if walkman can't sort you out (that's where I got mine) -

The plan for replacing the box is actually to put a little kiddie seat for my 3.5 month-old (and possibly her friend) until the mrs agrees she is old enough for the baby seat on the back of a normal two-wheeler.
brakes definitely need attention - not sure if I can be bothered with new tyres, as they are an annoying 24" size, and the current ones don't seem terrible.
Goes without saying that seat will be replaced, and most likely the seatpost as well, as it should really go further into the seat tube than it is currently. Wish I could get the stem out further, but its already quite long, and some other bars would be nice, but as you say, marginal gains...

just got this cargo trike:

Riding it 15 minutes to get it closer to home (no actual space for it at home, hence the overzealous locking nearby) showed me just how different the handling is on a trike! Any ideas on how to improve this (handling specifically, but also the bike more generally) on the cheap? Or is it just a matter of getting used to it?

cross-post from this new current project thread
dibs shifters - will PM with questions about details...
Undibs... Turns out I need ones for the SG-501, not the 7000
