Rode the inaugural London Orbital 300 yesterday and it didn't disappoint. Lovely leafy lanes once past Slough pretty much all the way to Gravesend. Waiting for the ferry and drinking beer was no problem. 30km or so north of Tilbury was not the best, but the control at Leaden Roding more than made up for it. They really made an effort.
I was very pleased with my hour long tactical stop over at a pub near Roydon to let the rain pass. Glimpses of London way in the distance to the left and you knew it was the home straight. More deserted lanes before the final (punishing!) hills back into the Chilterns. Thought the ride was fixed friendly up to that point.
Excellent route and organisation. Hope it happens again. -

You have 5 years to get things aligned!
@Thrasher asked about comparisons between LEL and PBP. A pretty thorough breakdown:

DD is such a wonderful cycling experience imo.
After a rest, breakfast, chat and few minutes of shuteye, felt really good so stuck with the original plan of riding back. Greeting everyone still on their way there was just amazing. Realise there are heroic efforts scattered throughout the entire field of riders! The mutually imparted good vibes set us up very well for the rest of the return ride, which ended up being by the far the furthest I've ever ridden into a hard headwind. Rained most of the day too, but was actually quite nice as wasn't cold at all. -

When I rode to an outdoor party near winchester before the days of google maps or common sense not realising how far it was and ended up riding in the moonless dark down tree covered roads. Was so dark I could only tell i was moving by the air passing by. Intense focus, like from a kind of sensory deprivation. Incredible experience, but I take lights now.

Not really. I got to the bottom of that looooooong hill, then looked back, saw no one, so went back up aaaaaaall the way up to that intersection where you said right at the roundabout, but it wasn't a roundabout. At first I thought it was Jim getting me back for last week, but then realised I must have missed you guys so just carried on. Was no probs, and was good to go with you guys for the part we did.
Rest of the ride before was very nice too! I've just ordered a bunch of stuff, which includes new tyres.
Also, piles, anyone ridden with them? :/ -
