This is my Audax , fast touring bike ,not pretty but super functional

Velo Odyssee (sic) Euro Velo bike path pretty much all the way :) , easy rolling terrain , lots of campsites and beaches . Nice route but Santander is awful and be careful where you cross from France into Pay Basque as its easy to end up on the motorway .

This bike needs WI or TA cranks and 7400 DA derailleurs with DT shifters for maximum instagrammage , or at least not shitty Sora honestly it's shite.

A Krampus could be a good shout , I've got one and it rides much nicer than my friends Ogre , I'd sell mine but the seat post is super stuck so unless your exactly the same inseam as me, 78.2 cm from centre of cranks to saddle then might be a bit pointless.

I have original Mafac centre pull on a 1950s Holdsworth and they are for lack of a better word shit , squeaky , flexy and not really very powerful. I know how to set brakes up and I cannot get them to work to a satisfactory level let alone better than modern alternatives . They do look cool though.

Cool thanks , I've been riding with the bars this weekend and they are really nice , never tried Jones bars for comparison but I like the position, build quality seems good and sturdy.

The only issue I have found with Brooks is that they are not water proof so either get a saddle cover for rainey nights or maybe try the cambium ?

These are 8 speed but would work with 9 speed as friction . You can find this kind of stuff in most second hand bike shops or on eBay for cheap . As @TomvanHalen said you just unscrew them and attach them to the Paul mounts .

2nd This . Tiagra 9 speed shifters are cheap as chips and very similar to DA.
I have suntour power shifters on my touring bike and they cost me the princely sum of £6

Paul thumbies are the one I meant but they are only suitable for flat bars if not then I imagine you could make a deore group work well with bar end shifters. Friction shift is great it's really useful to never have to worry about indexing or your gears struggling after a few days of grimey weather .

Hi , in my opinion the best gear setup would be a 9 speed deore triple with a 12 - 36 cassette , I would run friction shift with thumbies or dt shifters. Loads of gears , easy to find or repair parts and fairly cheap to buy in the first place. This is based on having done quite a few long tours to the arse end of nowhere !

Conti 4 seasons 28s are great , I recently rode 2000km in 13 days on mixed terrain on them , one p*nct*re, which was mostly down to me not paying attention at the end of a very long day.
I use them for daily commuting and they are fast and grip well in the wet.
IMHO definitely worth a pop.
