Felt like a crazy morning on my trip just south of the river between Putney and Battersea Park today. Why is it that when the traffic is slightly worse, everyone in a car, van, lorry or on a motorbike seems so much more desperate to have an accident? Every street I rode down seemed to have at least one wince worthy moment. Unnecessarily Stressful.

Couldn't agree more with the sentiments concerning the right turn into Battersea park after Albert Bridge.
I tend to take a central line early giving me the chance to dive across the road before the proper turning, if I see some serious traffic approaching from the lights further down. There is a drop curb in front of the bus stop that you can hop up and meander into the comparative safety of the park.
On the dogs and people front, some cyclists need to slow down when it's busy on a summers evening. Its a park, a place of recreation for all. Flying through in time trial mode is not very sociable to any one. I use it as a time to cruise, admire the view and contemplate all my workmates stuck on the sweaty tube/train/bus. -
Hi
Anyone got some half decent 25mm tyres lying around. I'm doing some 100 mile sportives over the next few months. Currently my steed is weighed down by 32mm commuter friendly rubber. Looking at a cost effective way of getting some lighter rubber for the big days in the saddle.
If anyone has something their willing to part with for around £10 per tyre and can drop off central/SW I'd be interested.
Thanks

Real shame this place is closing. Say what you like about choice of location, business model etc but the loss of a nice space with lots of shiny interesting bikes/bits and knowledgeable staff is a sad thing. Could always find a way to while away 20 mins gawping at stuff I could not afford!
However, I've just popped in and the proposed sale looked too good to be true. They had just marked up a complete tokyo fixed "wide open" with campag carbon centaur full group for a snip over £1000. Wish I hadn't just built up a nice steel roadie as that is steal! -

I offer for sale one vintage Columbia cruiser bike. Size small/medium. Pictures here hopefully:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B91Ysh45bssmTlpScU9DaWNGWU0&usp=sharingThis beauty has been my better half’s spring/summer “potter to the shops bike” for the last 5 years or so. She named it “Bertha” and found it worked best for her when combined with a spotty dress and big sunglasses, but you could wear what you want with it. It would suit a classy lady about town, or the shorter gent looking to go slow in style. It would not suit tall people or people that regularly cycle up large hills.
It dates from somewhere between 1961 and 1975. Made in the USofA no less.
As you can see, it has a rather extensive “patina”. These rusty bits are, as far as I can see, just aesthetic and have not corroded the steel badly. The frame is still solid. The mudguards have polished up lovely though and are looking bling!Kit wise, it’s rocking a fairly new, great looking, super comfy Brooks B33 saddle. Leather looks good, but there are some rust specks on the rails and metal work. The rear wheel was rebuilt a few years ago. A new at the time shimano single speed coaster brake hub was laced into the existing rim. Both wheels seem solid although small rust spots are forming around the spoke nipples. Also fitted new white wall tires a few years back which are still looking great. No front brake, so advise maintaining a leisurely pace. I have no idea what the motorcycle style top tube thing is for. It has a button on it however this seems redundant now. Perhaps it once had a dynamo light? Anyway, it looks pretty fly. Finally it has a massive honker horn for honking at people with.
I have no idea if this will garner any interest from the esteemed clientele of LFGSS. If anyone is interested I am based in Kingston. I could also meet at Charing Cross / Westminster weekday lunchtimes or after work. This would give me an excuse to ride this on the morning commute which is no bad thing, although I may not bother with the lycra.
I’m now looking for £70. A genuine piece of retro kit, albeit with signs of age! If it sells a donation will be made to the forum.
Thanks for looking,

Hi all
Currently building up an old frame as a single speed. Managed to extract 5 cassette spacers from an old 8 speed I had lying around. Does any one else have some tatty old spacers from old knackered cassettes they are willing to donate?
Secondly, I'd like to fashion a tensioner from an old rear mech. Again if anyone has one hanging around they are willing to part with for a couple of quid I'd love to take it off your hands. Not fussy. Any old beat up thing will do.
The main thing is the spacers. Rear mech would be a bonus. I live in Putney and commute to Westminster. Happy to meet or, if you want to stick them in an envelope i'll reimburse postage and for your troubles. Plus a small donation to the forum.
Thanks in advance.

Yep, those are the roads in question. Even when I got onto the superhighway on embankment, a generally proficient seeming cyclists tried his best to fall off in front of me when moving off at the northern Vauxhall Bridge junction. How hard is it to wait until you've definitely clipped in before trying to give it full beans? His foot slipped off the pedal, face nearly chinned his stem, cue mega wobble and evasive action from the commuting peloton. Relieved to reach the office unscathed and ready for this evening's adventure home.
