5/16" is close enough to 8mm that you may find a metric one that suits - although a quick google suggests that the Brisa one is pretty good value.

Rode the North Downs 200 from Cleve RFC last weekend - out to Marlborough and Andover-ish before coming back via Pewsey. Route was good, weather less so.

That looks pretty good. The route to Abergavenny is one I've used quite often when riding to Mid-Wales.

Not sure what's going on with the route map on their site though - it does something odd after Monmouth. The A466 between Monmouth and Chepstow is busy, but not too bad to ride on.

How long is long ? Loads of options if you head NW after crossing the Severn on the old bridge. Beacons, Eppynt, Black Mountains, Elan Valley, Gospel Pass...

Bigger has lower chain tension and spreads the load over more teeth so should wear more slowly but will be marginally heavier.

Thank you! Took it out to test the brakes this morning. About the same absolute power as BB7s but much nicer feel. Back needs bleeding from me fitting it but the front is fine.

That bit of the country has been known as the mid-Wales desert for a long time, but the rest of the hipster bikepacking crap can do one.

Couple of hours this morning took me up to 3x overlapping 13x13 squares, but it means that one extended commute home next week will get me 15x15.

FWIW, I'm reasonably happy with BB7s + organic pads + compressionless outers + SRAM S500 levers too. But I need one more caliper for my commuter and instead of buying a single BB7 for £50 (+ cables, pads, etc.) I could upgrade the brakes on one bike to Hylex and shift a caliper over to the commuter.
