Painting question. I stupidly said we could change the bathroom colour from F&B Stifkey Blue (dark blue) to a much lighter probably colour, Setting Plaster. This will be Leyland Hard Wearing Matt Emulsion colour matched. I've used this paint in the hall and bathroom ceiling and I like it (other suggestions considered).
Ceiling and woodwork is white, lots of cutting in, fireplace, window, 1/2 tiled wall etc.
I was thinking of painting the whole thing white first (same paint as final colour) as I have to re-paint the ceiling anyway and I figure I can get away with being a bit less accurate with the white paint before cutting in with the new lighter colour. Otherwise I feel like I will really struggle to total hide the blue when cutting in the new paint etc.
Is this a bad idea?

Similar question to @RodSaetan - I bought some Alliums from the garden centre yesterday, about 6 inches of greenery coming out of the bulb each in a separate pot. I presume they have come from a greenhouse and are currently sitting on the wooden decking in their pots.
Are they ok there for a few days or are they going to die of cold/shock? Should I get them into the ground asap?

I went through the basement to get lights in the alcoves recently. Only useful if you have access.
Cable came down 3 m from the bit of the basement I can stand in, but I fished it out with a bit of rope looped out the end of a plastic pipe, hooked the cable then pulled the rope to trap it. Worked surprisingly well.

I thought of that, but it seems to be a bit overkill for a bathroom, maybe not.
I forgot to add that there is an extractor fan controlled by the same switch, which I don't want people to easily be able to bypass.
I guess one switch for now, and then smart bulbs if I want to be able to program different 'moods' using a remote button.

Bathroom lighting question. We have three downlights and are adding a flos mini globe on either side of the mirror. It's a dark alcove on one side of the chimney breast.
I'm leaning towards having all the lights come on together using the existing pull cord.
Alternative could be a second cord next to the first one, maybe smart bulbs and a remote button so we have less things hanging down.90% of the time we will need the lights on by the sink. But potentially if we are having a bath, it might be nice to have them on, but not the main lights. Not possible with one pull cord.
Thoughts? Any options I'm missing?

I want to add 2 wall mounted Flos Mini Glo-Ball wall lights on either side of a mirror above our sink.
Is it possible to wire them directly from this pull cord light switch as I think I can get a cable from there to where I want the lights? We had a bathroom extractor fitted a few years back which involved holes in the ceiling so I asked the builder to run a cable to the general area, just in case I wanted to do this in the future. A calamitous attempt yesterday to find the cable yesterday failed, although I did find a crap load of rubble that came out of a tiny hole and the sink unit came off the wall for good measure.
The switch controls 3 x GU10 spots and the extractor. The extractor has a separate isolator outside the bathroom.

Found Ikea ones listed as 90 and a very serious guy (I assume) who did some research that at least suggests that Ikea don't lie about their CRI claims.
Will get an ikea one when I next order or visit and report back.

I'm going to remove a small and totally unless built in alcove wardrobe and replace it with a cut to size ikea pax. I think at best it will end up looking like the attached pic once it's removed and I will have to fill and sand the chimney breast and any bits not hidden by the new wardrobe.
Question is, to remove it as neatly as possible, do I score the plaster/render with a stanley knife or cut a straight line with a multi tool prior to removing the timber. I want to try and avoid taking half the chimney breast with me as I remove the frame.
Edit- for clarity, the image is from the web, but ours is built in the same way, wrapping round the chimney breast.

Has anyone found any Hue compatible bulbs with a decent CRI? As pointed ouyt by @dbr the standard hue (warm white) ones are not great. They don't really mention CRI but I have found one pic of a box that says 80CRI.

Did modern house really count the 'roof terrace' in the floor area on this floorplan?

Don't want to start the perennial debate, but is there a forum approved oil/finish for wooden kitchen worktops? It's an Ikea butchers block style (oak?) one.
I need to sand and re-finish it. I used to use the Ikea oil on our old one but I think they changed it and I wasn't impressed with the new one.
More bothered about protection than aesthetics, although I don't want a varnish that will peel/crack over time.
