It's only that it has a suspended bit of plastic that actually fits on your head right? To enable the foam to float. There's nothing special in there to enable it to spin, it just floats. I also use a POC spin lid.
I'd say if the foam hasn't taken an actual hit, there's no reason why it's not still fine. Just make sure the plastics are all pushed in and twisted locked into the sockets on the lid and that all your inner foam is velcroed in place.

There's lots of options for short shorts for women. Even Rapha do short versions of their bog standard options but not for men. It's regular or long.
