Works for me. If I had the option I would possibly do something slightly neater than running it out the window but I doubt my landlord would like me drilling through the exterior walls like that...
This is the switch I got, it works well enough to give me ~80MB/s transfers over the network. You'll probably want cat5e rather than cat5 to get yourself gigabit ethernet but it will certainly work with either.

I have virgin and have exactly the same set up as @aggi is suggesting. A cat5e cable goes out one window by the modem/router and in the one upstairs into a little switch for my desktop/NAS etc etc. You don't need to do anything to set it up - just plug it in. The switch forwards everything it needs to (slightly clever than a hub, nowhere near a router), as far as the router knows it just has a few extra devices connected over LAN.
The only real thing I would do is neaten up how I got the cable upstairs, but that's out of my control (renting innit). -
Well, if you follow the right signs then you can do the change at KGX quite quickly, you just have to make sure you don't end up going towards the North Ticket Hall. You need to follow signs for the Euston Rd exit to get the quick interchange.

I repainted a whole load of wooden window and door frames a few years ago. Scrape off what you can, sand the rest. If it's still adhered then don't worry, just give it a light sand (ie not 60 grit!) to give the paint a surface to adhere on to - every bit of bare wood you leave needs priming so less is better. After that, fill and prime anything that needs it and start glossing. We used Dulux Weathershield which worked very well.

Had a ride on a friend's last weekend, it was glorious! We were this close to a similarly old Orbit (531 too) but the prevalence of the Dawes makes me more confident doing weird things to it.
What brakes are people running on these - canti, side pull (probably dual-pivot) caliper or the centrepull caliper (a la Weinmann)? -

Unified Remote.
Has specific 'remotes' for different applications on your computer. Works well with VLC if you set up the http-based remote.
Also can act as a mouse if you really need. -

This, but I guess everything is relative - a bad beer is better than a good glass of coca-cola!
Also, just noted that it's actually French which makes my comment more forgivable.... -
No, BBQ for ~15 people. The front rack was dedicated to low quality Belgian beer!
@tyeness, you might be able to use an intermediate piece of flat metal? Or a spacer (valve locknuts work a treat) to bring it out just far enough.
The Cotic is nice, very well finished and handles solidly, even when loaded up like that. Could do with a second set of eyelets at the front (they call it a 'life bike' and don't think about that?) or lowrider bosses. Note that the fork dropouts are fully enclosed. Yes it's reassuring, but a pain to fit anything other than a proper thru axle and impossible for a bolt on axle.
If you're a fiend for drop bars then they have a frame designed to take them without needing a mega short stem.
^What @rhowe said. WiFi is convenient, but not good.
I can transfer internally over WiFi at 3MBps tops (Virgin SuperHub 2, wireless N at 5GHz) while in the same room, but I can download from the internet at ~6MBps over ethernet.
